Capital Structure Decisions an International Eximination
(İzmir Ekonomi Üniversitesi, 2006) Muzaffer, Erol; Var, Turgut
Bu çalışmada İngiltere ve A.B.D'deki şirketlerin sermaye yapılarının seçimlerindekietkenler incelenmiştir. Çalışma esnasında İngiltere'deki şirketlerin borçlanmaoranlarının incelenen etkenler açısından A.B.D'deki şirketlere göre daha hassasoldukları belirlenmiştir. Örnek olarak şirketlere uygulanan borçlanma oranlarınınyapısı biraz değiştirildiği zaman İngiltere'deki şirketlerin A.B.D.'deki şirketlere göredaha keskin sonuç farklılıkları verdikleri gözlemlenmiştir.

A Study on the Travel Patterns of Physically Disabled People
(Routledge Journals, Taylor & Francis Ltd, 2011) Var, Turgut; Yesiltas, Mehmet; Yayli, Ali; Ozturk, Yuksel
The main objective of this paper is to highlight the travel patterns and experiences of people with a physical disability. To understand better the travel needs of people with a physical disability, it is useful to examine how travel patterns differ across demographic variables. The method chosen for the empirical data collection was a self-completed web-based questionnaire, which was answered by a total of 596 physically disabled people. The data obtained were evaluated using frequency, percentage, arithmetic average, t-test, chi-square and factor analysis. Ethical Behavior in Accounting: Some Evidence From Turkey
(Academic Journals, 2009) Karaibrahimoglu, Yasemin Zengin; Erdener, Ece; Var, Turgut
In today's business environment, the role of accountants is significant. Managers and other decision-makers base their decision mainly on information that accountants provide. Since accuracy of decisions depends on the reliability of accounting information, the ethical dimension of the profession has gained considerable attention recently. Furthermore, major corporate failures such as Enron, Arthur Anderson and WorldCom have made ethical issues a paramount concern to those working in business and accounting. With this understanding, this study examined whether ethics is teachable or not based on a survey conducted among business students in two Turkish universities. Overall, research findings suggest a strong support for the inclusion of ethics in business and accounting curriculum.

    Does Education Improve Ethical Attitudes?
(Int Management Development Association-Imda, 2007) Erdener, Ece; Zengin, Yasemin; Var, Turgut
Some advocate that ethics can and should be taught in the classroom; while others view that ethics cannot be taught at this stage, and a person is either ethical or not. In today's business environment with the growth of accounting, the importance of accounting ethics has increased as a result of recent scandals such as Enron and Arthur Andersen. Such scandals have focused attention on ethical attitudes and how they can be improved. In this context, this study focuses on ethical attitudes and whether they are teachable or not. Within this framework, these theoretical concepts are supported by empirical research into whether ethical attitudes can be acquired through education. The correlation between educational background and ethical attitudes was tested. Overall we found that there are no significant differences in the mean of the attitudes and no significant relation between education and ethical attitudes.

Barriers To Sustainable Tourism Development in Jamaica
(Cognizant Communication Corp, 2007) Altinay, Levent; Var, Turgut; Hines, Suzette; Hussain, Kashif
Many destinations have recognized the importance of implementing sustainable tourism development. However, for many developing countries worldwide, economic, social, and physical challenges pose great hindrances to sustainable development. The aim of this article is to investigate and evaluate the difficulties of implementing sustainable tourism development practices in Jamaica. The primary research is based on qualitative analysis to find out the obstacles regarding the implementation of sustainable tourism development, based on three themes, namely financial constraints, social instability, and lack of coordinated tourism planning. The overall results revealed that, in terms of sustainable practices, there are several initiatives being implemented by both public and private sectors, but they lack management, cohesiveness, and in some cases, collaboration. Also, if sustainability is to be achieved in a developing country, it will require effective financial management of all industries and a serious concentration on social sustainability.
