Investigating the use of blockchain technology in fashion and textile industry

Abstract

Günümüzün hızla dijitalleşen dünyasında, blok zincir teknolojisi birçok sektörde olduğu gibi tekstil ve moda sektöründe de oldukça büyük değişikliklere yol açmaktadır. Blok zincir teknolojisi, veri güvenliği, şeffaflık ve izlenebilirlik gibi konularda sağladığı benzersiz çözümlerle dikkat çekmektedir. Bu çalışmada, tekstil ve moda şirketlerinde blokzincir teknolojisinin kullanımını detaylı bir şekilde incelemek ve bu entegrasyonun neden benimsendiğini veya bu entegrasyondan ne beklendiğini belirlemek amaçlanmaktadır. Bu çalışma aynı zamanda moda ve tekstil şirketlerinin blokzincir teknolojisini benimseme sürecini, bu teknolojinin avantajlarını ve karşılaştıkları zorlukları tartışmaktadır. Şirketlerin geleceğine ışık tutan bu çalışmada, dokuz tekstil ve moda şirketi ele alınmıştır. Blokzincir kullanımını incelemek amacıyla dokuz şirketle görüşmeler yapılmıştır. Elde edilen nitel bilgiler önce "transcriptor" adlı uygulama ile yazıya dökülmüş, ardından tematik analiz yapmak için "taguette" adlı uygulama ile analiz edilmiştir. Bu araştırmanın bulgularına göre, bu şirketlerden sekizi şu anda blokzinciri kullanmamaktadır ancak çoğu tedarik zinciri zorluklarını çözme potansiyeli ve şeffaf izlenebilirlik yoluyla müşteri memnuniyetini artırma nedeniyle gelecekte bu teknolojiyi benimsemeyi beklemektedir.In today's rapidly digitalizing world, blockchain technology is causing major changes in the textile and fashion industry, as in many other industries. Blockchain technology attracts attention with the unique solutions it provides on issues such as data security, transparency and traceability. In this study, it is aimed to examine the use of blockchain in textile and fashion companies and determine why this integration was adopted or what is expected from this integration. This study also discusses the process of fashion and textile companies adopting blockchain technology, the advantages of this technology, and the challenges they face. In this study, which sheds light for the future of companies, nine textile and fashion companies were interviewed. The qualitative information obtained was first transcribed with the application called "transcriptor" and then analyzed with the application called "taguette" to make thematic analysis. Findings from this research revealed that eight out of these companies currently do not use blockchain; however, most of them expect the adoption of this technology for future applications, citing its potential to address supply chain challenges and enhance customer satisfaction through transparent traceability.
