He graduated from Bilkent University, Communication and Design Department in 2005. He carried out the first interactive exhibition with Sinan Aşçıoğlu (founder of openprocessing.org) at Techne'06 International Istanbul Digital Performance Platform. He received his master's degree from the Graphic Design and Illustration Department at Konstfack University in Stockholm, Sweden with full scholarship. While working as an assistant with Swedish photographer Anders Petersen, he mainly focused on post-production digitization. His graduate studies were on digital media and film studies. After completing an eight-week directing program at the New York Film Academy, Matay was entitled to a full scholarship in the one-year Animation and Interactive Technologies Program with the decision of the selection committee. He worked as an independent visual communication designer from 2011 to 2016. He worked as a columnist for the journals Psikesinema and Postas de Pescada (Portugal). Between 2012 and 2016, he gave lectures at Izmir University of Economics, Visual Communication Design Department and Cinema and Digital Media Department as a part-time lecturer. Since 2016, he has started to work as a full-time lecturer at Izmir University of Economics. He is conducting his doctoral studies on Cinematic virtual reality. His most recent work was exhibited at 1st Biennial of FARM CULTURAL PARK in Italy.
