Prof. Üçtuğ’un uzmanlık alanları arasında yaşam döngüsü değerlendirmesi (LCA), karbon ayak izi analizi, sürdürülebilir üretim sistemleri, yenilenebilir enerji sistemleri, ve enerji politikaları yer almaktadır. Uluslararası hakemli dergilerde yayımlanmış 30’un üzerinde makalesi, çok sayıda uluslararası konferans bildirisi ve kitap bölümü bulunmaktadır. LCA çalışmalarında tarım-gıda sektörü, tekstil, petrokimya, veri merkezleri ve ulaşım gibi farklı endüstriyel sistemleri değerlendirmiştir.
Danışmanlığını yürüttüğü projeler arasında, İzmir Ticaret Odası’nın sera gazı envanteri, TAT Gıda’nın LCA çalışmaları, SOCAR Türkiye için petrokimyasal ürünlerin çevresel değerlendirmesi ve Türkiye sanayisinin Yeşil Mutabakata uyumu yer almaktadır. Ayrıca TÜBİTAK destekli döngüsel ekonomi ve endüstriyel simbiyoz projelerinde de aktif araştırmacı olarak görev almıştır.
Prof. Üçtuğ, aynı zamanda IAEE (International Association for Energy Economics) üyesi olup, Türkiye’nin enerji geçişine ilişkin çok sayıda çalıştay ve bilimsel organizasyonda yer almıştır. Hâlihazırda İzmir Ekonomi Üniversitesi’nde lisans ve yüksek lisans düzeyinde “Heat Transfer”, “Engineering Thermodynamics” ve “Sustainability and Life Cycle Assessment” gibi dersleri yürütmektedir.

Prof. Dr. Fehmi Görkem Üçtuğ received his B.Sc. in Chemical Engineering from Middle East Technical University and his Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from The University of Manchester. He began his academic career at Bahçeşehir University and currently serves as a faculty member at Izmir University of Economics, where he has also held administrative positions such as vice dean and vice chair of the engineering faculty.
His primary research interests include life cycle assessment (LCA), carbon footprint analysis, sustainable production systems, renewable energy technologies, and energy policy. He has published over 30 peer-reviewed journal articles, numerous international conference papers, and book chapters. His LCA work spans various industrial sectors, including agri-food, textiles, petrochemicals, data centers, and transportation.
Prof. Üçtuğ has led and contributed to several consultancy and research projects, such as the greenhouse gas inventory of the Izmir Chamber of Commerce, LCA modeling for TAT Gıda, environmental assessment of petrochemical products for SOCAR Türkiye, and compliance strategies for Turkish industry under the EU Green Deal. He has also participated as a researcher in TÜBİTAK-funded projects focusing on circular economy and industrial symbiosis.
He is a member of the International Association for Energy Economics (IAEE) and has taken part in various national and international workshops and scientific events on energy transition. At Izmir University of Economics, he teaches undergraduate and graduate-level courses such as “Heat Transfer,” “Engineering Thermodynamics,” and “Sustainability and Life Cycle Assessment.”
