Lisans öğrenimi sırasında yarı zamanlı mekanik tasarım mühendisi olarak Vestel'de çalışmış ve sonrasında Almanya'da üç aylık makina mühendisliği stajı yapmıştır. Lisansüstü öğrenimi sırasında ise Dokuz Eylül Üniversitesi Mekatronik Mühendisliği Bölümü'nde 2010-2017 yılları arasında araştırma görevlisi olarak görev yapmıştır. Aynı zamanda TÜBİTAK ve KOSGEB destekleri ile 2013 yılında Dokuz Eylül Üniversitesi Teknokenti (DEPARK) bünyesinde kurmuş olduğu İnnolife Mekatronik Mühendislik Ltd. Şti.'nin genel müdürlüğüne devam etmektedir.
2020 Eylül ayından beri İzmir Ekonomi Üniversitesi Mekatronik Mühendisliği Bölümünde görev yapmaktadır.

Lütfi Mutlu received his B.Sc. degree from the Mechanical Engineering Department of Ege University in 2009. He gained his M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees from the Mechatronics Engineering Department of, Dokuz Eylul University in 2011 and 2017. He received his second M.Sc. degree from the Computer Science Department of Dokuz Eylül University in 2021.
During his undergraduate studies, he worked at Vestel as a part-time mechanical design engineer and then did a 3-month mechanical engineering internship in Germany. During his postgraduate studies, he worked as a research assistant at the Mechanical Engineering Department of Dokuz Eylül University between 2010-2017. He also runs his own company Innolife since 2013.
He has been working at the Mechatronics Engineering Department department of Izmir University of Economics since September 2020.
