Çalışmamıza katılan kadınların yaş ortalaması 44,97±11,12 (min-max: 21-84) yıl olup, %23,5'i Evre I meme kanseri tanısına sahip, %52'sine meme koruyucu cerrahi uygulanmış ve %35'ine meme kanseri cerrahisi sonrası rekontrüksiyon yapılmıştır. Hastaların eğitim düzeyi ve meme kanseri cerrahisi sonrası rekonstrüksüyon operasyonu geçirme durumu psikolojik iyi oluşlarını anlamlı düzeyde etkilerken (p<0,05), diğer değişkenlerin psikolojik iyi oluş düzeyleri üzerine etkisinin olmadığı saptanmıştır (p>0,05).Article Citation - WoS: 6Citation - Scopus: 7Factors Affecting Covid-19 Fear and Burnout in Surgical Nurses(Springer London Ltd, 2023) Savsar, Adile; Karayurt, OzgulBackgroundSurgical nurses face the risk of psychological problems while trying to cope with the challenges arising from the COVID-19 pandemic.AimThis study aimed to determine levels of COVID-19-related fear and burnout and affecting factors in surgical nurses.DesignThe study has a descriptive, cross-sectional design.MethodsThe study sample included 321 nurses working in surgical units and operation rooms in Turkey. Data were gathered with a sociodemographic and occupational characteristics form, the Fear of COVID-19 Scale and the COVID-19 Burnout Scale through a Google form between 1 August and 15 October in 2021. Obtained data were analyzed with independent groups t-test, One-Way ANOVA and simple and multiple linear regression analyses.ResultsThe nurses had moderate levels of fear (20.00 +/- 6.77; Min-Max: 7-35) and burnout (29.52 +/- 10.03; Min-Max:10-50) due to COVID-19. The female gender and belief in health staff shortage were predictive of fear and burnout related to COVID-19. Age was not predictive of COVID-19 fear and receiving education about COVID-19, exposure to violence, having adequate supplies of goggles/face shields and having a limited number of aprons/work wear were not predictive of COVID-19-related burnout. Fear of COVID-19 was predictive of COVID-19 burnout.ConclusionsFemale nurses and nurses believing in health staff shortage had higher levels of fear and burnout due to COVID-19. As COVID-19 fear increased, so did COVID-19 burnout. Nurses working in surgical units should be provided with education about coping strategies taking account of the factors affecting COVID-19-related fear and burnout.Article Citation - WoS: 2Living With a Foreign Organ: Counselling Needs of Living Liver Transplant Recipients(Cukurova Univ, Fac Medicine, 2018) Iseri, Ozge Pekin; Karayurt, Ozgul; Yilmaz, SezaiPurpose: Liver transplantation can be a lifesaving option for people with acute/chronic liver failure. Although liver transplantation has positive outcomes, the recipients experience many physical, psychological and social problems. It is of great importance to satisfy their needs for counselling so that they can overcome these problems. The aim of the study was to describe the counselling needs of living liver transplant recipients. Materials and Methods: A descriptive qualitative research design was used. The study was conducted between November 2012 and December 2012. In-depth interviews were performed with sixteen participants who had experiences of living liver transplantation. Data were analyzed with inductive content analysis. Results: The liver transplant recipients' counselling needs were categorized into two main themes: pretransplantation period counselling needs'' and posttransplant period counselling needs''. Subthemes were also identified and described. The first main theme had three subthemes (causes and symptoms of liver failure, treatment process, living donors) and the second main theme had four subthemes (medications used, possible complications, sexuality and body image and life after transplantation). Conclusions: The results indicate that the living liver transplant recipients' currently have insufficient knowledge about transplantation periods and they need counselling.Article Citation - WoS: 1Citation - Scopus: 1Investigation of Sleep Quality and Intolerance of Uncertainty in Liver Transplant Recipients: a Cross-Sectional Study(Wiley, 2025) Savsar, Adile; Karayurt, Ozgul; Kilic, Murat; Kul, Guelay AksuLiver transplant recipients experience many uncertainties after transplantation. Also, sleep problems are common among them. This study aimed to examine intolerance of uncertainty and sleep quality in liver transplant recipients. A descriptive and cross-sectional study was conducted with 117 liver transplant recipients followed in the outpatient clinic of a liver transplant center. Data were collected using a sociodemographic and clinical features form, the Intolerance of Uncertainty Scale-12 and the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index between May and September in 2023. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, correlation analysis and regression analysis. The recipients had a high mean score of 41.04 +/- 13.11 (min-max: 12-60) on the Intolerance of Uncertainty Scale-12. Age was predictive of uncertainty. Indeed, young recipients had higher intolerance of uncertainty. The recipients had a low score of 7.33 +/- 3.57 (min-max: 1-21) on the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index. The prevalence of sleep problems was 65%. Experiencing complications after transplantation was predictive of and worsened sleep quality. The sleep quality of the recipients had no relation with intolerance of uncertainty and inhibitory anxiety, but it had a relation with prospective anxiety.Article Citation - WoS: 4Citation - Scopus: 7Experiences of Adolescents and Their Families in the Short-Term After Scoliosis Surgery(Univ Fed Sao Paulo, Dept Enfermagen, 2018) Bilik, Ozlem; Karayurt, Ozgul; Savci, Aysegul; Damar, Hale TurhanObjective: The study was performed to reveal experiences of adolescents and their families in the short-term after scoliosis surgery. Methods: This study had a qualitative descriptive design, and data were collected from adolescents with scoliosis surgery (n=17) and their family members (n=9) at in-depth interviews. Obtained data were analysed with content analysis. Results: Five main themes emerged: physical complaints, unfamiliar environment (operating room and intensive care unit), emotional changes, wanting their parents to stay with them and worries about future. Both the adolescents and their families reported that the adolescents experienced not only physical and emotional problems but also worries about their future after surgery. Conclusion: Nurses should meet the adolescents and their families and allow them to express their feelings before surgery. Informing them before surgery is important in terms of relieving their anxiety and enhancing their adaptation. Creating an appropriate environment in recovery rooms and intensive care units where the adolescents can frequently see their parents may help them have better psychology. In addition, education programs that will be offered at discharge should be designed and interactive methods should be used to allow them to share their thoughts about their future.Article Citation - WoS: 7Citation - Scopus: 9Development of the Breast Cancer Related Lymphedema Self-Care Scale(Sage Publications Inc, 2023) Deveci, Zeynep; Karayurt, Ozgul; Bilik, Ozlem; Eyigor, SibelThe purpose of study was to develop the Breast Cancer Related Lymphedema Self-Care Scale to evaluate the self-care practices of women with breast cancer-related lymphedema (BRCL); and to examine the psycholinguistic and psychometric characteristics of this scale. The study had a descriptive and cross-sectional design. Data were collected in Izmir, Turkey between February 2014 and March 2016. The sample included 204 older patients undergoing joint replacement surgery. Fifty-seven-point four percent and 42.6% of the patients had total hip and knee replacement respectively. 42.2% of the patients had a severe fear of falling when they were first mobilized. There was a statistically significant difference between fear of failing in the first mobilization and the mean pain severity. In addition, the difference between fear of falling and the mean anxiety level was statistically significant. Pain and anxiety are important factors contributing to fear of falling in mobilization. The results of the study can help develop multidimensional strategies for reducing fear of falling in older people after joint replacement. (C) 2017 Elsevier Inc.
