Article Citation - WoS: 10Citation - Scopus: 12Service Modularity in E-Learning Programs: an Analysis From the Perceived Usefulness Perspective(Emerald Group Publishing Ltd, 2022-03-16) Sorkun, Metehan Feridun; Yurt, Oznur; Hsuan, JulianaPurpose This study investigates the effects of service modularity on the perceived usefulness (PU) of e-learning programs through the perceived ease of use (PEoU) and service customization. Design/methodology/approach Structural equation modeling was used to test four hypotheses with survey data from 517 undergraduates in Turkey. Findings Results show that service modularity affects the PU of e-learning programs through the PEoU. Service customization negatively moderates the effect of service modularity on the PEoU, but positively moderates the effect of the PEoU on the PU of e-learning programs. Practical implications This study offers insights that support the decisions of policymakers and higher education institutions on how to design appealing e-learning programs cost-effectively. Social implications This study reveals the determinants of the PU of e-learning, which could support the democratization of access to higher education in emerging countries where barriers to higher education are relatively greater than in developed countries. Originality/value The concept of service modularity is explored in the e-learning context from the students' perspective. This study shows that the standardized interfaces across course modules increase the PU of e-learning programs by improving the ease of use. It also shows, interestingly, that service customization, enabled by modularity, is not always appreciated by service consumers, because of the potential extra effort demanded in communicating their unique needs to service providers.Article Citation - WoS: 212A New Framework for Service Supply Chains(Routledge Journals, Taylor & Francis Ltd, 2007-03) Baltacioglu, Tuncdan; Ada, Erhan; Demirbağ Kaplan, Melike; Yurt, Oznur; Kaplan, Y. CemDespite the extensive amount of academic work devoted to supply chain management, today the structure of service supply chains still remains unexplored. The aim of this paper is to verify and explain this gap with regard to the unique nature of the services industry and the applicability of existing supply chain management literature to service businesses. This paper develops a new model for service supply chains and applies it to the healthcare industry. The results of this study are relevant both to practitioners in the services industry and to researchers conducting further studies in the field.Article A New Framework for Supply Chain Risk Management Through Supply Chain Management Capability(2015) Göçer, Aysu; Yurt, Öznur; Hüseyinoğlu, Işık Özge Yumurtacı; Baltacıoğlu, TunçdanTedarik zinciri risk yönetimi, firmalar için en kuvvetli rekabetçilik araçlarından biri olarak değerlendirilmektedir. Article Citation - WoS: 82Citation - Scopus: 133Green Supply Chains: Efforts and Potential Applications for the Turkish Market(Elsevier, 2012-01) Andic, Esen; Yurt, Oznur; Baltacioglu, TuncdanThis study aims to explore the suitability and significance of waste management as the first step to creating green supply chains in general, and as an extension of this exploration we address the following research questions: (1) What should be the starting point both for individual companies and supply chains for becoming green? Can it be waste management? (2) What is the level of environmental consciousness of firms and how is it possible to assess the potential level of participation if a waste management system was to be implemented in their supply chains? (3) Which sector would be the most appropriate for implementing a green policy in terms of attracting the attention of other sectors and customers simultaneously? (4) What are the dynamics of interdependency and interaction within the upstream and downstream partners in the chain in terms of green consciousness? In discussing green issues, the importance of the mentioned attracting attention underlies the importance of consciousness. Addressing this issue requires a general understanding of the current situation in the Turkish market in the first place, and then to extending this understanding to be able to evaluate more effectively the potential of waste management to help companies and consumers gain consciousness at the same time. Based on the literature and personal experience, it was decided to select the electrical and electronic equipment (EEE) sector for research. The focus group method was selected to collect opinions of managers from the EEE sector in Izmir. The focus group study was implemented in two sessions. Results showed that the waste management implementation could provide a good starting point for introducing green supply chains, and that the EEE sector could serve as a model for other sectors and consumers, as this sector's products directly affect electricity consumption. Also, we propose a conceptual model regarding dynamics of interdependency and interaction within the upstream and downstream partners in the chain in terms of green consciousness. The key contribution of this study is an analysis of the dynamics between upstream and downstream members in the supply chain, in terms of adopting a more environmentally aware attitude. The analysis of these dynamics is visualized with a proposed conceptual model. (C) 2011 Elsevier B.V. This study aims to evaluate the international cooperation opportunities on airborne forest fire-fighting by concentrating on cooperation between Turkey and Greece on the Aegean Coast. For this aim, the number and location of two counties' current resources are figured out and the current initial attack performances of both countries are measured. Considering each country separately, the relocation of the resources is suggested for improved service through mathematical programming models. Number and locations of the resources for an effective service are also suggested in case of cooperation. Results show that, in a cooperative system, total number of resources required is decreasing compared to a non-cooperative one. Findings of this paper address the research gap on international cooperation on airborne forest fire-fighting especially in the Aegean Region. This study can provide a viewpoint for the future cooperation between multiple countries on resource management, and disaster management, especially on the forest fire-fighting.Doctoral Thesis The Impact of Services Supply Chain Orientation on Percieved Industrial Service Quality: an Empirical Analysis(İzmir Ekonomi Üniversitesi, 2007) Yurt, Öznur; Baltacıoğlu, TunçdanHizmet yönetimi, tedarik zinciri yönelimi ve endüstriyel hizmet kalitesi kavramlarına olan ilginin artısına ragmen, bu kavramlar arasındaki iliski üzerine yapılan arastırmalar hala az sayıdadır. This paper explores their migration experience and discusses the role of physical and virtual bubbles in the formation of transnational communities and processes of adjustment to a new place. Design/methodology/approach This paper is based on a qualitative inquiry collecting data via semi-structured interviews with 18 London-based Turkish migrants and a digital ethnographic study of three Facebook groups that bring together the Turkish migrant community in Richmond, London. Findings Findings indicate that the migration of the new middle class differs conceptually from existing typologies. The paper proposes the concept of dissonant harmony-seekers and elaborates on their interactions to demonstrate that, in the Internet age, the traditional image of migrants living in isolated localised bubbles is no longer accurate. Findings also indicate a pragmatic and functional engagement with the bubbles, with migrants sporadically interacting with the bubbles to meet their individual needs in information, education and employment. Originality/value This paper contributes to the literature with the concept of dissonant harmony-seekers, which will gain more visibility in a world where the trend of democratic decline and rising authoritarianism will motivate a migratory move for people who confront a moral dissociation from the civil order in their homeland. The engagement of dissonant harmony-seekers with migrant communities challenges the conventional thinking that social identity is central to creating and maintaining bubbles. The other contribution of the paper to the literature is the metaphor of foam to capture the ephemeral and fugacious nature of the dynamics of migrant communities and practices.Master Thesis An Analysis of Information and Communication Systems Selection for Freight Forwarders(İzmir Ekonomi Üniversitesi, 2012) Yiğittekin, Ahu; Yurt, ÖznurBu çalışmanın amacı, Türkiye'deki nakliye müteahhitlerinin, bilgi ve iletişim sistemleri seçim sürecini inceleyerek, bu sistemlerin kullanımı hakkında yönetimsel bir yaklaşım geliştirmektir. Article Citation - WoS: 242Citation - Scopus: 328Approaches To Managing Global Sourcing Risk(Emerald Group Publishing Ltd, 2011-03-15) Christopher, Martin; Mena, Carlos; Khan, Omera; Yurt, OznurPurpose - Global sourcing can bring many benefits to organisations, but it can also expose them to a number of risks. The purpose of this study is to understand how managers assess global sourcing risks across the entire supply chain and what actions they take to mitigate those risks. Design/methodology/approach - A multiple case study approach was used, involving 15 cases in seven different industries. Each case consisted of interviews with manager; directly involved in the global sourcing decision, supported by documentary evidence. A cross-case analysis was conducted to analyse patterns across different industries. Findings - The study revealed that most companies do not have a structured supply chain risk management and mitigation system. Nevertheless they do use a number of informal approaches to cope with risk. The paper proposes that a multidisciplinary approach is required when dealing with global sourcing risks. It presents a classification of risks covering four categories: supply risk, process and control risks, environmental and sustainability risks, and demand risks. Originality/value - The paper addresses a research gap concerning managers' approaches to assessing and mitigating supply chain risk in a global context. In this context, this study proposes a new categorisation for global sourcing risks and offers a characterisation of global sourcing risk mitigation strategies applicable to different industries.Article Line-Haul Optimization of Oflt Inc. a Teaching Case Study(Emerald Group Publishing Ltd, 2009-08-28) Adivar, Burcu Ozcam; Yurt, OznurPurpose - The purpose of this paper is to describe a case study which can be used as a teaching exercise. This study aims to support students' and/or practitioners' knowledge on line-haul optimization techniques and their ability to analyze and solve problems on transportation management. Design/methodology/approach - This paper focuses on transportation management processes of a leading company in the sector, Ohio Freight Lines Transportation Inc., and a consultancy firm, A.C. Consultancy Service Inc. Although it is a real case, the name of the company has been omitted due to confidentiality reasons. However, this should not affect the key messages and learning points. Findings - At the end of the case text, ten questions and their potential answers are also provided as a teaching note. Originality/value - The case study is based on the idea that a firm's efficiency and profitability levels depend on its operational efficiencies.
