Interval Type-2 Fuzzy C-Control Charts Using Ranking Methods
(Hacettepe Univ, Fac Sci, 2019) Teken, Hatice Ercan; Anagun, Ahmet Sermet
Control charts are important for process or product because they provide information about the control situation of process and product. Because of this feature, control charts are used in many fields. Information about the product and/or process, which is under control or not, can be provided by looking the control charts. Fuzzy numbers are used to reduce information losses in operations with crisp numbers. In control charts applications, especially for qualitative control charts, the fuzzy set theory reduces the information losses and provide more flexible decision-making process. In the literature, there are some fuzzy control charts with type-1 fuzzy sets but there are few studies about fuzzy control charts regarding the cases where the data are expressed by type-2 fuzzy sets. The purpose of the study is to create an innovation using the ranking methods, which has not used for control charts in accessible literature, for the fuzzy control charts with interval type-2 fuzzy sets. The fuzzy results are compared with the crisp results. This study introduces ranking methods as new approach to generate interval type-2 fuzzy control charts, which is a different field.

Estimation of Biosurfactant Production Parameters and Yields Without Conducting Additional Experiments on a Larger Production Scale
(Elsevier, 2022) Sarac, Tugba; Anagun, Ahmet Sermet; Ozcelik, Feristah; Celik, Pinar Aytar; Toptas, Yagmur; Kizilkaya, Busra; Cabuk, Ahmet
In this study, a Plackett-Burman design was applied to investigate critical factors for surface tension. After adding a new factor called production scale, a central composite design (CCD) was constructed to examine nonlinear relations among factors and surface tension. An artificial neural network (ANN) was trained using data from CCD experiments. The ANN with the best structure of 5-6-1 was then tested with different unseen data sets. The predictions from ANN were within the 95% confidence interval (CI), even for a larger production scale, deter-mined by using the replicates. A genetic algorithm (GA) was developed to check how the values of the factors vary if the production scale was set to a user-defined value. Based on the validation experiments, it was observed that the 95% confidence interval of surface tension was 36.83 +/- 1.00 mN m-1 while pH 8, temperature 35 degrees C, incubation time 12 h, and amount of inoculum 2.30%, respectively, for the production scale of 600 mL. The proposed methodological approach with the integration of ANN and GA is considered to make a serious eco-nomic contribution as it allows predicting a proper setup for larger production scales without conducting additional experiments.

Experimental Study and Taguchi Analysis on Alumina-Water Nanofluid Viscosity
(Pergamon-Elsevier Science Ltd, 2018) Elcioglu, Elif Begum; Yazicioglu, Almila Guvenc; Turgut, Alpaslan; Anagun, Ahmet Sermet
Nanofluids as dispersions of fine particles within industrial fluids have potential in thermal applications due to their improved thermal characteristics. On the other hand, their viscosity may be a limitation for forced convective heat transfer, since increase in viscosity increases the pump power requirement. In this study we report experimental results for alumina-water nanofluid viscosity at different temperatures, for different nanoparticle fractions and diameters. Experimental data were collected based on a Taguchi experiment design (L8). Statistical analyses via Taguchi Method were done to determine the effects of experiment characteristics on nanofluid viscosity and relative viscosity. The viscosity of nanofluids decreased sharply with temperature (20-50 degrees C); increased with nanoparticle fraction (1-3 vol%), and increased slightly with nanoparticle diameter (10 +/- 5 nm, 30 +/- 10 nm). Taguchi Analysis revealed that the importance of the parameters on nanofluid viscosity can be sorted from lower to higher sequence as temperature, nanoparticle fraction, and nanoparticle diameter; and they were all statistically significant on nanofluid viscosity. One novel conclusion is that the interaction effect of temperature and nanoparticle volumetric fraction was significant on nanofluid viscosity at alpha = 5%, thus the effect of nanoparticle fraction was different at different temperatures, and vice versa. This interaction effect appeared in the developed nanofluid viscosity equation with a novel term, the product of temperature and nanoparticle fraction. This result may be beneficial for hydrodynamic applications, where the thermal aspects and flow characteristics need to be considered simultaneously. (C) 2017 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

Intuitionistic Fuzzy C-Control Charts Using Fuzzy Comparison Methods
(Springer Verlag, 2020) Ercan-Teksen H.; Anagün, Ahmet Sermet
Control chart is a quality branch that provides information about the process. Fuzzy logic theory is suitable especially for non-measurable data. Using of fuzzy sets for control charts is reasonable given that the data are subjective for qualitative control charts. For this reason, studies of fuzzy control charts are included in the literature. In the literature, fuzzy control charts are generally generated using ordinary fuzzy sets. There is no study about intuitionistic fuzzy control charts in the literature. However, in a process, especially for qualitative data, if some data are considered as intuitionistic fuzzy numbers, corresponding control charts should be created. First of all, within the purpose of this study, upper control limit and lower control limit will be created for intuitionistic fuzzy c-control charts. The other purpose of this study is to generate fuzzy control charts using the intuitionistic fuzzy comparison methods. © 2020, Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

Interval Type-2 Fuzzy C-Control Charts Using Likelihood and Reduction Methods
(Springer, 2018) Ercan-Teksen, Hatice; Anagun, Ahmet Sermet
Control charts, used in many areas, are important for providing information about the status of the product control. Control charts allow us observation of abnormal conditions about a product and/or a process. These situations usually need to be interpreted by an expert. At this point, fuzzy numbers can be beneficial in reducing the differences between experts' opinions and information loss. This is especially true for qualitative data, and for this reason, fuzzy numbers can be used to transform linguistic expressions into data. Although some recent studies have created control charts with fuzzy sets, most focused on type-1 fuzzy sets. Nevertheless, in real life, it may not always be possible to express these data as type-1 fuzzy sets; it may be more realistic to express some data as type-2 fuzzy sets. The purpose of this study is to create control charts using interval type-2 fuzzy numbers. Interval type-2 fuzzy control charts can be obtained by using different approaches, including defuzzification, centroid, type reduction and likelihood approaches. Comparisons are made between the interval type-2 fuzzy control charts and classical control charts. This study introduces likelihood method as a new approach to generate fuzzy control charts. The significant contribution of this paper to the relevant literature is that interval type-2 fuzzy set methods applied to different areas-such as likelihood, centroid, type reduction-are adapted to c-control charts for the first time.

Intuitionistic Fuzzy C-Control Charts Using Defuzzification and Likelihood Methods
(Ios Press, 2020) Ercan-Teksen, Hatice; Anagun, Ahmet Sermet
Control chart is one of the statistical methods to analyze the process. The use of fuzzy sets in control charts, which are divided into qualitative and quantitative data, has been applied in many studies recently. Especially for qualitative control charts, data collection is more difficult and more subjective. Therefore, fuzzy sets are used to reduce losses in data. There are many control chart studies created by type-1 fuzzy sets available in the literature. In recent years, examples of fuzzy control charts with extensions of fuzzy sets have been found. The aim of this study is to obtain c-control chart for intuitionistic fuzzy sets. For this purpose, defuzzification and likelihood methods are used. In particular, with the application of the likelihood method to intuitionistic fuzzy control charts, this will be considered as a pioneering study in the literature. In addition, a novel likelihood method was developed for intuitionistic fuzzy sets and used here to provide flexibility.
