The Relation Between Emerging Adults' Attachment Styles and Rejection Sensitivity: The Intervening Role of Emotion Regulation
(İzmir Ekonomi Üniversitesi, 2023) Zebi̇l, Beyza; Koçak, Ayli̇n
Beliren yetişkinlik dönemindeki bireylerin bağlanma stilleri ile reddedilme duyarlılıkları arasındaki ilişki sıklıkla çalışılmış olmasına rağmen olası aracı mekanizmalar ile ilgili daha fazla çalışmaya ihtiyaç duyulmaktadır. Dolayısıyla bu çalışma, beliren yetişkinlik dönemindeki bireylerin bağlanma stilleri ile reddedilme duyarlılıkları arasındaki ilişkide duygu düzenlemenin aracı rolünü incelemeyi amaçlamaktadır. Örneklem 18-29 yaş arası 373 katılımcıdan (Ortyaş = 22.80, S = 2.55; %85,5'i kadın) oluşmuştur.

The Interplay Between Autonomy Support and Structure in the Prediction of Challenge-Seeking, Novelty Avoidance, and Procrastination
(Routledge Journals, Taylor & Francis Ltd, 2024-09-13) Mouratidis, Athanasios; Michou, Aikaterini; Koçak, Aylin; Christ, Aysenur Alp; Selçuk, Şule; Alp Christ, Ayşenur
Although teachers' autonomy support and structure are considered essential elements of the classroom environment to promote effective learning strategies, prior research has sometimes provided conflicting results. This inconsistency may stem from how autonomy support and structure relate to some outcomes but not others. Alternatively, this variability might be attributed to nonlinear relations, which have been scarcely tested thus far. In this cross-sectional study, we revisited this issue by examining both the linear and curvilinear relations of autonomy support and structure to challenge-seeking, novelty avoidance, and procrastination. Participants were 3,271 adolescents (Mage = 15.91, SD = 0.34 years; 59.8% females) from 116 classrooms. Multilevel polynomial regression analyses revealed that, compared to structure, autonomy support was a more reliable predictor of challenge-seeking, both at the student and the classroom levels. In contrast, structure predicted novelty avoidance and procrastination more reliably at both levels than autonomy support. Response surface analyses indicated that the most desired pattern existed at the line of congruence. Our findings suggest that both autonomy support and structure are needed to enhance students' learning strategies. However, the degree of necessity may vary for specific outcomes, with one potentially being more crucial than the other.

Exploring the Link Between Object Relations, Narcissism, Cyber Bullying, and Cyber Victimization Among University Students

The Link Between Negative Mother-Adolescent Relationship Quality and Internalizing Problems: Exploring the Mediating Role of Frustration of Basic Psychological Needs With Dyadic Analysis Method
(Turkish Psychologists Assoc, 2024-12-31) Kocak, Aylin
Research has aimed to understand how the psychological well-being of both mothers and their adolescents is influenced by the quality of their relationship, yet few studies have examined possible mediating mechanisms. Drawing from the basic psychological need theory, this study aims to examine the mediating role of the frustration of basic psychological needs in this relation by using a dyadic analysis method. The sample consisted of 230 mother (Mage = 45.47, SD = 5.31) and adolescent (Mage = 15.79, SD = 1.84; 56.1% of them were female) dyads. The Negative Quality of Mother-Adolescent Psychological Needs Satisfaction and Frustration Scale, and the Depression Anxiety Stress Scale were used for data collection. The results of the Actor-Partner Interdependence Model Extended to Mediation (APIMeM) reveled that when mothers reported negative relationship quality, it was positively associated with frustration of both their own and their adolescent's needs. However, when adolescents reported negative relationship quality, it was only positively linked to their own needs frustration, which, in turn, positively associated with both their own and their mother's internalizing problems. On the other hand, mother's needs frustration was only positively linked to her own internalizing problems. This suggests that adolescent's needs frustration played a significant mediating role in the link between negative relationship quality and internalizing problems for almost all pathways (except for the link between mother's report of negative motproblems. Research findings were discussed in the light of the basic psychological need theory.

From Marital Conflict To Life Satisfaction: How Basic Psychological Need Satisfaction Operates-A Dyadic Analysis Study
    (WILEY, 2024-08-27) Koçak, Aylin
Although attempts have been made to untangle the possible mechanisms underlying the relationship between marital conflict and life satisfaction, the number of studies examining the possible intervening mechanisms is still limited. Therefore, guided by the self-determination theory, this study aimed to examine the mediating role of basic psychological need satisfaction in the relationship between marital conflict and life satisfaction using a dyadic analysis method. The sample consisted of 235 female (Mage = 44.58, SD = 5.69) and male (Mage = 47.90, SD = 5.77) pairs. The Actor-Partner Interdependence Model Extended to Mediation (APIMeM) was used to examine the within and between pathways in the stated relations. Findings demonstrated actor and partner effects between need satisfaction and life satisfaction; however, females' need satisfaction was only marginally associated positively with their male partners' life satisfaction. Moreover, while males' need satisfaction was negatively related to both their own and their partners' marital conflict, females' need satisfaction was only negatively related to their marital conflict. Finally, for all pathways in the model, males' need satisfaction was supported as a full mediator between marital conflict and life satisfaction. Females' need satisfaction, on the other hand, significantly mediated the relationship between their own marital conflict and life satisfaction. The findings provide insights by elucidating the interplay between these variables in dyadic relationships and highlighting the critical importance of need satisfaction in overcoming marital challenges and enhancing partners' overall life satisfaction.

The Intervening Roles of Cognitive Appraisals and Basic Psychological Needs in Relationship Between Perceived Interparental Conflict and Adolescent Well-And Ill-Being

Bidirectional Pathways Between Adolescent Triangulation in Interparental Conflict and Adjustment
(Nova Science Publishers Inc., 2025) Koçak, Aylin
Traditional research on adolescents has largely concentrated on the role of adolescent adjustment in the context of triangulation into interparental conflict, often neglecting the reciprocal nature of these dynamics. To address this gap, this chapter, grounded in the family systems theory, explores the bidirectional relations between adolescent adjustment and triangulation into interparental conflict, focusing on how adolescent adjustment can influence triangulation and, conversely, how such triangulation can impact adolescent adjustment. By delving into these multifaceted pathways, the chapter aims to deepen our understanding of the complex interactions within family subsystems. It examines various family and adolescent correlates of triangulation into interparental conflict, along with factors associated with adolescent adjustment, and considers mediators such as cognitive and contextual variables, parenting practices, and basic psychological needs, as well as moderators like gender and developmental stage. Through this comprehensive exploration, the chapter illuminates the intricate interplay of family dynamics, mediators, and moderators that shape adolescent development. © 2025 Nova Science Publishers, Inc.
