Abstract
This research delves into the exploration of both women's and men's costumes through the artworks of Antoine Watteau. Watteau, a French painter, is renowned for his portrayal of aristocratic and theatrical costumes set against lush, imaginary landscapes, thereby creating a harmony and even a fusion between humanity and nature. His artistic aesthetic has been thoroughly examined in this research. The study investigates the prevailing costume concepts and artistic approaches during the Baroque and Rococo periods, with a focus on the interrelation between art and fashion of these eras. Moreover, it touches upon artists who were inspired by Watteau, particularly those who continued his art form. In this context, twelve paintings by Watteau, particularly highlighting the fêtes galantes and theatrical genres, have been selected. The historical and socio-cultural contexts of these works have been analyzed, and the costumes of the figures within the paintings have been examined.
