Abstract: As data communication based internet usage increased; the need for high speed communication networks have emerged. Networks must service diverse variety of traffic requirements with different service demands. Recent studies have shown that optical WDM networks with MLR support efficiently respond to these requirements. In this study, we address the problem of survivable routing with wavelength and rate assignment (RWA) in MLR optical networks. A WDM MLR optical network with dedicated path protection scheme is designed and compared with SLR networks in terms of cost. Our results show that the usage of MLR property provides new opportunities and ease to solve RWA and survivability problems.
