Title: | Smart Inbound/Outbound Logistics in Digital Manufacturing | Authors: | Ozkan-Ozen, Y.D. Ozbiltekin-Pala, M. |
Publisher: | Taylor and Francis | Abstract: | Manufacturing processes are directly affected by digital transformation, where all the internal and external processes in the supply chains are varied. In this altering system, smart logistics solutions play a crucial role, which can be categorized as inbound and outbound logistics activities and are vital for efficient manufacturing systems. Inbound logistics focuses on the efficient receipt, storage, and movement of raw materials or components into a manufacturing facility, while outbound logistics deals with the distribution of finished products to customers. By integrating digital technologies, with manufacturing and smart inbound/outbound logistics, systems can enhance visibility, improve demand forecasting, and reduce lead times. From this point of view, this chapter focuses on smart logistics activities in digital manufacturing, and investigate the interaction between digital manufacturing and inbound and outbound logistics activities. With this aim, technologies under digital manufacturing and smart inbound/outbound logistics are explained, and the interaction between them are presented by considering different stages of the manufacturing processes. Furthermore, suggestions for future works, including academic and practical points of view, are presented. © 2025 selection and editorial matter, Abhishek Behl and Brinda Sampat. | URI: | https://doi.org/10.4324/9781003626640-11 https://hdl.handle.net/20.500.14365/6204 |
