I received my MD degree from Hacettepe University in 1984. After completing the compulsory service in Kayseri (1984-1986) , I worked as a primary care physician in Konya for two year. Afterwards, I completed Pediatrics Residency Program at Dokuz Eylul University School of Medicine (1995), and Fellowship In Pediatric Oncology at Dokuz Eylul University Institute of Oncology (1998). From March 1998 to April 2016, I had been serving as a full time faculty at Dokuz Eylul University School of Medicine, and the Institute of Oncology, Department of Pediatric Oncology in Izmir, Turkey.
I had taken active part in both undergraduate and post graduate (Medical School 4th year, Pediatrics and Pediatric Oncology) education as well as serving as an academic clinical consultant in pediatric oncology for 20 years. My area of expertise is childhood and adolescent solid tumors and lymphomas. Experiencing the sufferings of this very vulnerable patient population, I developed a keen interest in palliative care and integrative (wholistic) cancer care starting from 2007. With an aim to promote integrative & palliative care education and services, I started an initiative (Dokuz Eylul University Palliative Care Working Group) in 2010 that served as the basis for Dokuz Eylul University Center for Palliative Care (2012). I was the co-founder and the director of this center (Sept 2012 –April 2016). I am a certified EPEC-P* (Education in Palliative and End of Life Curriculum-Pediatrics) trainer.
I resigned from my position at Dokuz Eylul University Institute of Oncology on April 2016, and started working as a founder faculty member of Izmir University of Economics Faculty of Medicine.
