A Heuristic for Large Scale Multi-Period Disassembly Leveling and Scheduling

Enhancing Social Media Engagement for Logistics Services Branding
(Inst Superior Entre Douro & Vouga, 2023) Şerbetçioğlu, Cemre; Göçer, Aysu
This study investigates logistics service providers' social media engagement to understand better its effect on supply chain functions, mainly their branding purposes, since managers and academics consider branding strategies increasingly crucial in the current competitive business environment. Eleven semi-structured in-depth interviews with thirteen social media experts from the selected logistics service providers operating in Turkey were conducted to understand their social media use better and identify their decision-making mechanisms. The theoretical analysis is based on the technology acceptance model and media synchronicity theory. The findings suggest that business-to-business and business-to-customer settings are distinct, while logistics sector companies differentiate themselves through social media branding strategies. The most significant drivers of social media engagement are creating brand recognition and brand awareness, while the main perceived barriers are regulations and stakeholder permission.

Examining Social Media Branding Profiles of Logistics Service Providers
(Emerald Group Publishing Ltd, 2020) Serbetcioglu, Cemre; Gocer, Aysu
Purpose The purpose of this paper is to examine the social media profiles of logistics service providers, and understand how they use social media for elevating their services and differentiating their brands across industrial partners. Design/methodology/approach A content analysis was conducted on 3,215 social media posts, which were gathered from the official Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and LinkedIn pages of seven logistics service providers operating in Turkey. Findings The results demonstrated that logistics service providers engage with multiple social media channels with different branding motives, and that each company has a unique social media profile. The benchmarking analysis also revealed the branding strategies commonly pursued by the companies, and also indicated the alternative themes that differentiate their brands across their competitors. Research limitations/implications The findings contribute to the literature on the utilization of social media by business-to-business companies, particularly for logistics service providers, and recommend a frame of benchmarks for practitioners in the development of more effective social media branding strategies in services context. Originality/value Studies explaining the social media engagement of business-to-business companies in service sector are lacking, and also, the services branding literature in the context of social media is rather scarce. This study investigates the social media profiles of logistics service providers and explores how they use social media for branding their services.

Emerging Trends in Supply Chain Resilience: a Systematic Literature Review
(University of Rhode Island, 2024) Şerbetçioğlu, Cemre; Oflaç, B.S.
Following the COVID-19 pandemic, the increased geopolitical tensions and trade wars and increased frequency of extreme weather conditions due to climate change revealed the importance of building resilience to mitigate the impact of such unforeseen challenges. Understanding supply chain resilience and building capabilities is essential for quickly responding to and recovering from disruptions. With the PRISMA approach, 335 articles were analyzed to illuminate the multifaceted nature of supply chain capabilities by synthesizing existing research on resilience, identifying key trends, and highlighting areas for future investigation. By identifying key trends in supply chain resilience, this study makes significant contributions to the theoretical understanding of supply chain capabilities within the framework of the dynamic capability view. This study offers valuable insights for practitioners aiming to enhance understanding and guide efforts toward building more resilient supply chains in a world characterized by uncertainty. © 2025, Association for the Advancement of Computing in Education. Exploring Extreme Disruptions and Resilience Capabilities in Fashion Supply Chains

Fashion Consumption During Economic Crisis: Emerging Practices and Feelings of Consumers
(Routledge Journals, Taylor & Francis Ltd, 2020) Ertekin, Zeynep; Oflac, Bengu Sevil; Serbetcioglu, Cemre
Economic crisis has a significant impact on consumption practices and the way consumers justify their consumption patterns. Particularly in the field of fashion, consumers face a conflict between desire to consume due to rapidly changing fashion trends and coping with the decrease in purchasing power due to the economic crisis. Semi-structured interviews were carried out to gain a deeper understanding of how the economic crisis affects consumers' fashion consumption behavior and the alternative consumption practices that emerge. The research further sheds light on the underlying feelings involved due to changes in consumption patterns. Some of the themes that emerge-reuse, reduce, and reject-are in line with earlier findings on anti-consumption but this time the motives of the consumers are non-voluntary. The findings also contribute to anti-consumption literature by introducing three new themes: refind alternative channels, reconsider, and rely on discounts. The study further shows that there are both positive and negative feelings associated with changes in consumption behavior due to economic crisis. Along with understanding the adaptations in consumption behavior, anticipating these conflicting emotions resulting from crisis related anti-consumption is important for marketers and retailers who are concerned about developing appropriate responsive strategies.

A Scheduling Optimization Study in an Assembly Line of a Company in Turkey
(Computers and Industrial Engineering, 2014) Şerbetçioğlu, Cemre; Ari E.; Yetkin Ekren, Banu; Özpeynirci, Selin
Scheduling of assembly lines is a very common problem which is often very hard to solve with classical scheduling approaches. In this study, we consider such an assembly line scheduling problem of an international electronics company located in Manisa, Turkey. First, we solve the scheduling problem analytically by considering four policies: Earliest Due Date, Shortest Processing Time, Critical Ratio and Nawaz Heuristic. The performance measures considered are: The makespan and average cycle time of products. Second, due to the stochastic environment of the production lines, we simulate the current system by considering stochastic processing times. Last, we integrate the analytical results of the pre-solved four scheduling policies into the simulation model to compare their performances and choose the best one.
