| gperson.biography | Ian White İngiltere’nin Exeter şehrinde doğdu. Londra Üniversitesi, Slav ve Doğu Avrupa Çalışmaları Okulu, Bulgar Dili ve Edebiyatı Bölümü’nden mezun olduktan sonra Makedonya Üsküp Ünivesitesi’nde bir yıl boyunca Makedonca çalıştı. İngilizce öğretimi kariyerine 1970’lerin başında Londra St Giles’da başladı. Bulgaristan Sofya Üniversitesi’nde mütercim-tercümanlık dersleri vermek üzere British Council İngilizce Okutmanı olarak görev yaptı. Kuveyt’te İngilizce dersleri verdikten sonra, 7 yıl boyunca Suudi Arabistan’ın Riyad şehrinde ilk olarak British Council ve ardından Kamu Yönetimi Enstitüsü’nde çalıştı. Durham Üniversitesi’nde Uygulamalı Dilbilim alanında yüksek lisansını tamamladı. 1980’lerin sonlarında özel bir dil okulunda yönetici olmak üzere İstanbul’a geldi. 1995 yılında İzmir’e Türk özel sektöründe yönetici ve öğretmen eğitmeni olarak çalışmaya başladı. Aynı zamanda Cambridge ESOL CELTA kurslarında öğretmenlik yaptı. Ian, İzmir British Council’de dilbilgisi ve sesbilim dersleri tasarladı ve verdi. 2003 yılının Eylül ayında İzmir Ekonomi Üniversitesi tarafından İngiliz Dili okutmanı ve öğretmen eğitmeni olarak görevlendirildi. İEU desteğile Ian, Türkiye, Birleşik Krallık, Suriye ve Uruguay'daki konferanslarda bildiri sunmuştur. Ian, İmtiyazlı Dilbilimciler Enstitüsü üyesidir. ***************************************************************************************************************************************** Ian White was born near Exeter, England. After graduating in Bulgarian language and literature (with Russian as his subsidiary subject) from the School of Slavonic and East European Studies, London University, he spent a year at the University of Skopje, Macedonia, where he studied Macedonian. His TEFL career started out in the early 1970's at the St.Giles' School of Languages, Oxford Street, London. He was then appointed British Council Lector in English at Sofia University, Bulgaria, where he taught translation classes. After teaching English in Kuwait, Ian spent seven years in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia first teaching at the British Council, then at the Institute of Public Administration. Ian then gained an MA in Applied Linguistics from the University of Durham. In the late 1980's, Ian went to Istanbul as director of studies for a private language school. He moved to Izmir in 1995 working both in the Turkish private sector as director of studies and teacher trainer and as course tutor for Cambridge ESOL CELTA courses. Ian also designed and ran courses on teaching phonology and grammar at the British Council, Izmir. Ian was appointed teacher trainer and English language instructor at the Izmir University of Economics in September 2003. One of his main interests is the teaching of pronunciation. With support from IEU, Ian has presented papers at conferences in Turkey, the UK, Syria and Uruguay. Ian is a Member of the Chartered Institute of Linguists. | |
