An Analysis of Change Over Time: Latent Growth Models
(Turkish Psychologists Assoc, 2010) Dural, Seda; Somer, Oya; Korkmaz, Mediha; Can, Seda; Ogretmen, Tuncay
Latent Growth Models which are used in understanding how individuals change over time have been a topic of intense interest among the researchers during the past two decades. These models in the framework of Structural Equation Modeling have been recommended as an alternative to classical methods such as analysis of variance. In this study, Latent Growth Models were introduced by using a Monte Carlo simulation approach and the interpretation of the findings was discussed. In addition, the effect of different sample sizes (30, 50, 100, and 200) on power and parameter estimates were examined. For this purpose; (1) data generation was performed with Monte Carlo simulation, (2) the parameters of unconditional and conditional models were estimated and the findings were discussed and (3) the effect of sample size on parameter estimates, standard errors, coverage and power was studied. All of the analyses were performed by using Mplus 5.1 software. Results were discussed in the context of advantages and disadvantages of Latent Growth Models, and the effect of sample size.

İkinci Derece Örtük Gelişme Modelleri ve Ölçme Eşdeğerliği
(2011) Çetinkaya, Seda Dural; Somer, Oya; Korkmaz, Mediha; Can, Seda; Öğretmen, Tucay

    Multi-Display Implicit Development Models
(Assoc Measurement & Evaluation Education & Psychology, 2010) Dural, Seda; Somer, Oya; Korkmaz, Mediha; Can, Seda
Research problems related to behaviors and attitudes of the individuals generally require examining change over time. Especially in psychology and education, to design such longitudinal research will make important contributions to enrich our knowledge in these fields. Some statistical methods like analysis of variance for repeated measures are commonly used in analysis of change. However, Latent Growth Models in the framework of Structural Equation Modeling offer important methodological improvements because it enables to develop hypotheses about change of latent variables' means over time and covariance structures of error terms. In the present study, it was aimed to investigate Latent Growth Models with multiple indicators by using data generated from Monte Carlo simulation and represent a demonstration for researchers. All analyses were performed by using Mplus 5.1 software. In this context, the growth model with multiple indicators was introduced, related Mplus syntaxes were explained and the interpretation of the model parameters was discussed.

A Sample Application on Multilevel Structural Equation Models
(Assoc Measurement & Evaluation Education & Psychology, 2010) Can, Seda; Somer, Oya; Korkmaz, Mediha; Dural, Seda
The data collected in order to test the research questions in social sciences usually have multilevel data structures. Because of the limitations of single level analysis, the violation of independence of observations assumption in empirical studies was ignored; either groups or individuals were used as units in the analysis for a long period of time. Such kinds of problems in the studies with hierarchical/clustered data brought about the development of multilevel modeling techniques. Multilevel Structural Equation Modeling allows developing different models which can be tested for each level of the hierarchical data (within group and between groups) simultaneously. In current study, it was aimed to investigate two-level structural model by using data generated from the Monte Carlo data generation facility of Mplus program and to present a demonstration for researchers. Within this context, the model was introduced using the analysis performed by Mplus 5.1, the Mplus syntax used in the analysis was explained and the interpretation of the model parameters was discussed.

Second Order Latent Growth Models and Measurement Equivalence
(Turkish Education Assoc, 2011) Dural, Seda; Somer, Oya; Korkmaz, Mediha; Can, Seda; Ogretmen, Tuncay
Research problems related to individuals' behaviors and attitudes requires examining inevitable changes over time. Because learning by nature implies change, analysis of longitudinal data becomes an important topic especially in the field of education. In this article, linear changes of a particular attribute over time was studied in the framework of the second order latent growth models by using data generated from Monte Carlo simulation. All analyses were performed by using Mplus 5.1 software. Related Mplus syntaxes were introduced and the interpretation of the model parameters was discussed. Additionally, it was explained how to study measurement equivalence in these models. Analyses were performed in three steps: (1) basic latent growth model, (2) latent growth model with weak measurement equivalence, and (3) strong measurement equivalence.

Zamana Bağlı Değişimin İncelenmesi: Örtük Gelişme Modelleri
(2010) Çetinkaya, Seda Dural; Öğretmen, Tuncay; Can, Seda; Korkmaz, Mediha; Somer, Oya
