Article The Role of Narrative Methods in Sociology: Stories as a Powerful Tool To Understand Individual and Society(2015) Erol Işık, Nuran; Işık, Nuran ErolBu makalede amaç anlatı ve öykü adı verilen dilbilimsel verilerin sosyoloji disiplini için önemini değerlendirmektir. Anlatıya dayanan metinlerin bilimsel veri olarak kabul edilebilmesi ile ilgili epistemolojik tartışmalardan çok, gündelik hayatta pekçok farklı mecrada karşılaştığımız öykü, efsane, kıssa, ironi, fıkra, drama, aforizma gibi örneklerin sosyal hayat hakkında oluşturduğumuz anlam dünyası ile ilgisine dikkat çekmek hedeflenmektedir. Sosyoloji, toplumsal hayat ile ilgili farklı eksenlerde çözümlemeler yapan bir bilim dalı olarak anlatıya dayanan verilerden farklı şekillerde faydalanabilir. Bu anlamda anlatı ile sosyolojinin biraraya gelme biçimi sosyolojiye bakış tarzımızla da ilgili olacaktır. Ninnilerin anlatı açısından önemi nasıl bir annenin kişisel tercihinden bağımsız olarak kolektif referanslara sahip olması gibi, tarihsel toplumsal hafızamızda yer etmiş büyük anlatılar da bir o kadar derin katmanlar taşıyabilen niteliktedir. Kısaca, makalede öncelikle anlatı kuramı ve sosyolojinin kesişme noktası aydınlatılacak, daha sonra da öyküleştirme örneklerine dayanan popüler kültürel metinlerden örneklerle aydınlatılacaktır.Article Citation - WoS: 2The Transformation of Arabesk Music Within the Framework of the Sociology of Music(Istanbul Univ, Fac Letters, Dept Sociology, 2018-06-15) Erol Işık, NuranThe link between music and society is a relationship with complex social ties. The purpose of this article is to evaluate the major transformation of arabesk music through examining the principles of music sociology and proposing new topic suggestions revealed through major discussions on the agenda of sociological and methodological problems.Article Citation - WoS: 1Evaluating Narrativization Practices in Turkish Tv Serials as a Venue of Popular Historiography(Marmara Univ, Fac Communication, 2019-12-30) Erol Işık, Nuran; Işık, Nuran ErolThis paper aims at constructing a bridge between narratives and morality, as represented in three selected TV dramas assumed to have symbolic power over Turkish audiences: Resurrection, You are My Homeland, and Yunus Emre. The storification of historical events and personalities through TV dramas is considered to increase understanding of how different moral argumentations are related with contestations over tradition and culture. The major assumption in this article is that understanding the basic rhetorical strategies in these programs has a major impact on the way in which we analyze current ideological tensions and tactics, which are positioned on a constantly shifting ground. In this paper, the voices used in the strategies of constructing a moral argumentation will be evaluated through a model based on discourses of divinity, community, and autonomy (Sheweder, Much, Mahapra, & Park, 1997). The role of narrative transactions in TV dramas is explicated so as to make an assessment on the significance of agency as well as the politics of interpretation.
