Work-Related Musculoskeletal Pain in Hospital Employees
(2024-05-16) Sertpoyraz, Filiz Meryem; Altaş, Elif Umay; Tanıgör, Göksel; Han, Esra; Esra, Han
Aim: Work-related musculoskeletal disorders are common health problems in the community. They lead to various levels of pain, loss of function, and deterioration in quality of life. Our aim is to evaluate work-related musculoskeletal pain in hospital employees and factors that could prevent this problem. Material and Method: Female and male hospital employees working in different departments of our hospital participated in the study. Demographic data, work and working environment, ergonomic training, and musculoskeletal pain were queried. The severity of pain in those experiencing it was assessed using the visual analog scale and the Nordic Musculoskeletal Questionnaire. Results: A total of 275 individuals participated in the study. 72.4% of the participants were female and 27.6% were male. 79.3% of the participants reported musculoskeletal pain. Pain was most commonly (71.3%) observed in the 35-54 age group and was of moderate severity. According to the frequency of pain, it was most common in the back (61.5%), followed by the lower back (55.6%) and neck (53.5%) regions. The presence and severity of pain were more pronounced in females (p<0.05). There was a statistically significant relationship between the presence of pain and female gender (p=0.003, r=0.179). Pain severity was higher in females (p<0.001, r=0.226). 69.8% of healthcare workers reported that ergonomic arrangements were not made in the hospital, and 81.4% reported not receiving training in ergonomics. Conclusion: Work-related musculoskeletal pain was highly prevalent among hospital healthcare workers, and it was found that healthcare workers did not receive ergonomic arrangements in their work environments or education on protecting the musculoskeletal system. Inference: We believe that making ergonomic adjustments in the work environments of hospital employees, providing education on musculoskeletal system protection, and integrating these into the quality system would be important.

The Results of Environmental Enrichment and Neurodevelopmental Treatment in Shprintzen-Goldberg Syndrome: a Case Report
(Turkish Physiotherapy Association, 2023-08-31) Yakıt Yeşilyurt, Seda; Taş, S.A.; Yeşilyurt, Seda Yakit
Purpose: This case report aimed to investigate the efficacy of the physiotherapy program in a child with Shprintzen-Goldberg syndrome (SGS). Methods: A 9-month-old case diagnosed with SGS by a medical geneticist was the focus of the study. Congenital pes varus, craniosynostosis and craniofacial deformities, mental, social, emotional and motor retardation, regulation and sensory hyperreactivity symptoms were observed in the case. The physiotherapy program consists of environmental enrichment and Neurodevelopmental Treatment (NDT) approaches twice a week for 12 months and was conducted by a physiotherapist at Karadeniz Eregli Private Gökkuşagi Special Education and Rehabilitation Center. Gross motor function and disability level were assessed using Gross Motor Function Measurement-88 (GMFM-88) and Gross Motor Function Classification System (GMFCS), respectively. The success of physiotherapy goals was determined by Goal Attainment Scaling (GAS). Results: At 12 months follow-up, GMFM-88 score increased from 5.52% to 45.47% and GAS total scores increased from -6 to +6 point. Conclusions: The literature review shows that no previous study assessed the effectiveness of 12 months physiotherapy program in a child with SGS. We consider that physiotherapy including targeted NDT approaches can support motor development in rare cases, such as SGS characterized by severe motor involvement. © 2023 Turkish Physiotherapy Association. Assistive Technologies for Individuals With Visual Impairment: Contribution of Design in the Field of Clothing
(2019-12-19) Süller Zor, Başak; Vuruşkan, Arzu; Zor, Başak Süller
According to data of World Health Organization, it was estimated that 253 millionwere visually impaired worldwide in 2017 (WHO, 2017). For those with moderateto total blindness and visual impairment, daily activities such as mobility, communication, education, clothing and shopping cannot be carried outindependently. Assistive technologies (AT) offer solutions to contribute to thequality of life of those with visual impairments. Considering the daily obstacles facedby such individuals, as a prior step for design development of alternative ATs, thispaper includes an overview of ATs. Since this overview addresses a lack ofapplications in clothing related AT, the following survey aims to acquire feedbackfrom people with visual impairment, focusing on clothing related issues, with theaim of making improvements in design.
