Article Citation - Scopus: 1Integrating Light Elements in Fashion: Practice-Based Design Approach(Chamber of Textile Engineers, 2023-06-30) Vuruşkan, Arzu; Bulgun, Ender; Tekcan, ElifIn history, the relationship between fashion and technology has influenced the ever-changing silhouettes of the body, the quality of materials used to construct these silhouettes, and the colors giving liveliness to the material. Today, influenced by the digital revolution and innovation in advanced materials, the fashion industry benefits from the increasing possibilities of technology to develop alternative functions even to the most conventional dress forms, such as wedding gowns. This integration, which necessitates the contribution of different know-how and expertise, also provides a creative platform for developing interdisciplinary, practice-based design research and applications. In this study, an innovative wedding dress using light as a design element was produced with the joint contribution of designers and engineers based in Izmir, considered the capital of bridalwear in Turkey. This project, which considers light as a new design element that increases the expressive power of the dress, aims to offer an alternative to both the wedding dress category and the existing examples incorporating light technologies. In accordance with the main framework, research questions, and project design concept, the study conducts a literature review examining current design examples using different light technologies (LED, optical fibers, etc.). Following this, the stages of design, sample development and production processes are presented with relevant visuals. It is believed that this study, whose research, design development, and production processes are shared in detail, will set an example for future interdisciplinary projects. © 2023, Tekstil ve Muhendis. A vast expanse of intricate land- and sea-route networks is known as the Silk Roads. They were crucial in bringing Eastern and Western cultures together. Additionally, it has been noted that major cities in Western Anatolia, such as Baghdad or Izmir, have been able to establish links because to their advantageous position. Non-Destructive Techniques (NDT) can meet such criteria, while they are also time and cost-efficient. This paper recommends the combined use of several techniques to maximize information range and accuracy. More specifically, High Definition and Infrared Thermography (IRT) drone systems to assess sub-surface state and detect external heritage defects, and Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) and Resistivity Measurement (RM) for detecting internal defects. By accumulating suitable data from heritage structures along the Silk Road in Turkey, this study presents a comprehensive approach that can accurately identify surficial and internal defects, in terms of their location and size.Article Comparison of Contrast-Enhanced Magnetic Resonance Angiography and Digital Subtraction Angiography in the Evaluation of Renal Artery Stenosis and Detecting of Accessory and Polar Arteries(2021-09-03) Başaran, Ceyla; Yıldırım, Mahir Utku; Yıldırım, Utku MahirObjectives: Renal artery stenosis (RAS) is the most common cause of secondary hypertension. RAS may cause renal insufficiency, uncontrolled hypertension and is associated with increased cardiovascular morbidity and mortality. We aimed to evaluate the accuracy of contrast enhanced Flash 3D Renal Magnetic Resonance Angiography (MRA) in the depiction of the RAS also detecting of accessory and polar renal arteries with intraarterial digital subtraction angiography (DSA) still serving as the reference standard. Methods: In this retrospective case-control study, we reviewed contrast enhanced Flash 3D Renal MRA and DSA of 71 patients who were suspected of having RAS and underwent DSA after MRA within 15 days. DSA was accepted as gold standart and the specificity, sensitivity and accuracy of MRA were determined. Results: Overall sensitivity and specificity values of contrast enhanced Flash 3D Renal MRA in detecting stenosis were 96.1% and 76.3% respectively. Conclusions: Contrast enhanced Flash 3D Renal MRA is a reliable noninvasive imaging modality in the diagnosis of RAS.Article Citation - WoS: 1Image Quality Assessment Based on Manifold Distortion(Pamukkale Univ, 2021) Turkan, MehmetAn image quality metric is proposed by introducing a new framework for full reference image quality assessment from the perspective of image patch manifolds. Assuming that most natural scenes are sampled from low dimensional manifolds or submanifolds, perceived image degradations in structural variations can be quantitatively evaluated on the surfaces of highly nonlinear image manifolds. Manifold distortion image quality index first characterizes intrinsic geometric properties of the locally linear manifold structures of spatially local patch spaces, and then measures the deviation from the original smooth manifold structure to calculate the distortion index. Experimental results demonstrate a strong promise with a comparison to both subjective evaluation and state-of-the-art objective quality assessment methods.
