Effects of Retail Lighting on Product Color Perception and User Satisfaction
(Anadolu Univ, 2022-12-21) Dilgen, Ozge; Hasirci, Deniz
Light source color properties in retail applications are among the most important factors affecting the user satisfaction in shopping places. A lighting design with a low color rendering value and an unsuitable color temperature can create a difference in the color perception of the product which may affect customers purchase decision or cause dissatisfaction resulting in the return of the product. In this study, it is aimed to evaluate the effects of lighting on product color perception and customer's feedback on the color difference. In order to fulfill this aim, the color differences of the chosen products are examined in three different key areas of a chain clothing store in Izmir, Turkey and compared with the color under daylight. Moreover, the user feedback is taken via a questionnaire to discuss the relationship between color display and user satisfaction/dissatisfaction. The collected data shows that although people do not realize the color differences inside the store, if they experience it after their purchase it may result in the return of the product. As a result of the study, it is suggested that retail store designers and lighting engineers should collaborate to ensure that the consumer perceives what the product designer intended as accurately as possible.

Design and Analysis of Bi-Objective Flexible Job Shop Scheduling Problem: a Case Study in Construction Equipment Manufacturing Industry
(Pamukkale Univ, 2020) Resat, Hamdi Giray
This paper presents a design and development of mixed-integer linear optimization model for scheduling of flexible job-shop production problem under capacity constraints by using exact solution algorithm. Modelling approach is designed in order to introduce data analysis in real situations, minimize production time in production lines, reduce total production costs, and reveal important features of mathematical programming problem in detail. The main purpose of this study is to obtain faster and efficient Pareto solution sets for bi-objective problem by using epsilon-constraint method. Generated Pareto frontier using real life data is shared with decision makers. The GAMS programming language is used during the solution phase of a mixed-integer linear optimization model for bi-objective problem and production efficiency of the company is increased around 16.6% in terms of production cost.

Minimization of Number of Tool Switching Instants in Automated Manufacturing Systems
(Gazi Univ, 2022-03-01) Gokgur, Burak; Özpeynirci, Selin
This study addresses the problem of minimizing tool switching instants in automated manufacturing systems. There exist a single machine and a group of jobs to be processed on it. Each job requires a set of tools, and due to limited tool magazine capacity, and because it is not possible to load all available tools on the machine, tools must be switched. The ultimate goal, in this framework, is to minimize the total number of tool switching instants. We provide a mathematical programming model and two constraint programming models for the problem. Because the problem is proven to be NP-hard, we develop two heuristic approaches, and compare their performance with methods described in the literature. Our analysis indicates that our constraint programming models perform relatively well in solution quality and execution time in small-sized problem instances. The performance of our greedy approach shows potential, reaching the optimal solution in 82.5% of instances. We also statistically demonstrate that the search algorithm enhances the quality of the solution obtained by the greedy heuristic, particularly in large sets. Hence, the solution approach, i.e., the greedy heuristic and the search algorithm proposed in this study is able to quickly reach near-optimal solutions, showing that the method is appropriate for manufacturing settings requiring sudden adjustments.

The Hierarchy of Motivations Turning Manufacturers' Attention To Reverse Logistics
(Ege Univ, Fac Economics & Admin Sciences, 2018-04-01) Sorkun, Metehan Feridun
The aim of this study is to outline the motivating factors hierarchically, which turn the manufacturing firms'attention to reverse logistics. Effective reverse logistics management provides many advantages such as reducing operational costs, increasing customer satisfaction, boosting brand value, and meeting the requirements of environmental regulations. Since reverse logistics helps firms to accomplish wide range of goals, this research searches for the fundamental motivation of Turkish manufacturers to give emphasis on reverse logistics. To this end, this study examines the reverse logistics processes of the Turkish giant manufacturing company, Vestel, for its electric-electronic product groups. The nominal group technique is applied with the participation of Vestel managers, which provides the data on how the goals aimed to accomplish via reverse logistics interrelate. Then, interpretative structure modelling is used to establish the hierarchy of reverse logistics motivation factors. This hierarchy shows the fundamental motivations through which it is possible to accomplish many goals together. Hence, the results of this study give guidance to both policy makers and managers in formulating their product return policies and strategies.
