Article Porphyridium Cruentum as a Biological Component for the Green Synthesis of Metal Nanoparticles and for the Evaluation of Their Antimicrobial Activity(Field Crops Central Research Institute, 2025-08-21) Mutaf, Tugce; Çalışkan, Gülizar; Oncel, Suphi; Elibol, Murat; Mutaf-Kilic, TugceSilver nanoparticles are an alternative to new-generation antimicrobial agents with their antimicrobial activity. Iron and zinc nanoparticles can potentially be used as UV protection in various applications. Nowadays, green synthesis of nanoparticles as a sustainable alternative attracts attention. Microalgae are promising in nanoparticle synthesis among biological sources due to their high biomass productivity and heavy metal accumulation ability. The present study aimed to investigate the potential of synthesizing intracellular silver, zinc and iron nanoparticles from Porphyridium cruentum microalgae. For nanoparticle synthesis, the effects of metal solution concentration and amount of biomass on particle size were investigated. The nanoparticles were characterized by dynamic light scattering, UV-vis spectrophotometry, and antimicrobial activity test. Silver nanoparticles of 169.7 nm, zinc nanoparticles of 189 nm, and iron nanoparticles of 356.7 nm were characterized by DLS. 169.7 nm silver nanoparticles were synthesized with 9.83 mM AgNO3 concentration and 0.19 mg/ml biomass: metal solution mixing ratio. The surface plasmon resonance band of silver nanoparticles was observed in the 300-350 nm wavelength range. According to the antibacterial activity results of silver nanoparticles, inhibition zone diameters were obtained as 10.83±0.76 mm and 11.33±0.57 mm against Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus bacteria, respectively.Article Impacts of Augmented Reality Marketing on Gen-Z Fashion Consumers Behavioral Intention(Chamber of Textile Engineers, 2024-12-31) Günduru, Beliz; Deniz, DenizYenilikçi teknolojiler tekstil ve moda endüstrisi için büyük önem arz etmektedir. Prof. Dr. Gizem Ayna; Ayna Duran, GizemObjective: Although endotoxin exposure has been shown to trigger innate immune responses and promote cancer, it has also been shown to prevent cancer formation. In our study, survival analysis was performed to determine whether the upregulated genes triggered by endotoxins have hazardous effects on cancers or provide a survival benefit. Materials and Methods: Gene intensity values of control and bacterial endotoxin-administered individuals were obtained from the Gene Expression Omnibus database. Using the R "Linear Models for Microarray Data" package, differentially expressed gene analyses were conducted to determine genes that differ between healthy and bacterial endotoxin-administered samples. "ShinyGo 0.80" web-based tool was used to determine the disease types indicated by these genes. The "Kaplan-Meier Plotter" web-based tool was used to conduct survival analysis. Results: Genes that create an innate immune response to bacterial endotoxin exposure and are upregulated differently than in individuals without exposure were identified. According to gene enrichment analyses, the two main types of cancer identified were leukaemia/lymoma and colon cancer. We detected that MLF1, STAT5B, and BCL3 genes led to poor survival; however, the ARHGAP26 gene was protective for acute myeloid leukaemia patients. In the case of colon cancer, SMAD7 and TLR2 genes were determined as leading to "high risk of death". Conclusion: Once the systemic inflammation-related genes identified in our study are confirmed through laboratory experiments in samples taken from solid tissue in the case of colon cancer and at the level of genes obtained from blood samples in leukemias, genetically targeted treatments will also be possible.Article Topographic Anatomy and Histology of Inferior Turbinate’s Vascular Structures: a Cadaveric Study(2024-08-27) Tarhan, Ceyda; Oltulu, Fatih; Göde, Sercan; Bilge, Okan; Yavaşoğlu, Altuğ; Midilli, RaşitObjective: Surgery is frequently used to treat inferior turbinate hypertrophy, and post-surgical bleeding is the most common complication. This study aims to evaluate the whole turbinate in terms of the vascular structures histologically from the anterior to posterior and to determine regional differences and, if any, clinical implications. Methods: Eight fresh-frozen cadavers were examined macroscopically. Thirteen selected turbinates were divided into 7 right and 6 left inferior turbinates. Ten randomized sections were obtained from each one-third section. On a light microscope, these sections were counted along the entire section with the artery and vein structures at high magnification. In the calculation of arterial cross-sectional area, vessel diameters were measured in the transverse plane and grouped as anterior, middle, and posterior. Results: In the anterior one-third, the mean value for arterial sections was 33.25, and the mean value for venous sections was 308. In the middle one-third, the mean values for arterial sections were 56.13, and the mean values for the venous sections were 663.63. In the posterior one-third, the mean values for arterial sections were 35.63, and the mean values for venous sections were 445.88. Statistical analysis with one-way ANOVA showed that the difference between the regions for venous structures was P = .202, and for arterial structures was P = .449 Conclusion: According to the outcomes of our study, contrary to what was previously known about surgical techniques applied to inferior turbinate hypertrophies, bleeding can occur, whichever part of the turbinate is operated on.Letter Wonca Europe’s New Family Medicine Definition and Sustainable Healthcare Knowledge(Kare Publishing, 2024) Spínola, A.C.F.; Arman, I.H.; Bentounsi, Z.; Cordovil, C.; Gökdemir, Ö.[No abstract available]Article When Are You Going To Marry? Intention To Marry Through the Lens of Theory of Planned Behavior and Self-Regulatory Focus(Turkish Psychological Counseling and Guidance Association, 2024-03-29) Koçak, Aylin; Mouratidis, A.What makes people to take important decisions in their lives, such as marriage? To answer this question, we relied on theory of planned behavior to examine the degree to which peoples' attitudes, subjective-norms, and behavioral control perceptions predict their intentions to marry. Furthermore, we used self-regulatory focus theory to examine whether such attitudes, norms, and perceptions could be partly explained by peoples' focus on pursuing-gains versus securing non-losses. We conducted a cross-sectional, web-based survey with a sample of 699 Turkish young adults (70.7% females; Mage =24.89 years, SD = 4.31). The results of the structural equation modeling showed that promotion-focus positively and prevention-focus negatively related to perceived behavioral control, which in turn negatively related to intentions to marry. Intentions also related positively to attitudes but not to subjective-norms, which however related positively to promotion-focus and negatively to prevention-focus. Gender and age differences were also found. The results are discussed in light of the two theories. © 2024 The Authors. We argue that Council of State did not really perform adjudication of a legal dispute in this case, but rather functioned as a proxy of the executive power for particular reasons. As a matter of fact, we argue the justifications regarding the case law of the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) and the right to property on which the decision was based to be a falsification. Moreover, the developments before and after the decision demonstrate this judgement to be a product of a non-judicial motivation. Lastly, the sequence of political actions regarding the conversion of several other museums into mosques that have been observed in Turkey over the last ten years implies the non-judicial dynamics behind the Council of State’s decision regarding Hagia Sophia. Our analysis reveals the political decisions that would possibly be the subject of criticism by domestic opponents and the international community to have been eliminated by referring the issue to the packed courts in order to avoid all undesired consequences.Article Shifting Financial Privileges From Dynasty To Parliament in the Emergence of Modern Turkiye(Istanbul University Press, 2023-09-27) Bahçeci, BarışThis study deals with the emergence of modern Turkey in the axis of the change in financial privileges. In this respect, the acts of the parliaments are analysed with a descriptive approach. While the parliament conducted the liquidation process of the Ottoman dynasty, it also created some new privileges for its members. This study examines this simultaneous process. The liquidation process started in 1908 with the establishment of a constitutional monarchy initiated by the Committee of Union and Progress (İttihat ve Terakki Cemiyeti). Only after 1920, a national assembly convened under a new leadership in Ankara continued the process and seized the assets of the dynasty, ended tax privileges, and cut their allowances in 1924. However, during the same period, parliament extended the financial status of its members with laws enacted even unconstitutionally. Despite that allowances of MPs were increased, and rules creating pension rights turned into a legislative behaviour that set an example for the following decades too. Moreover, parliament also established financial privileges by tolerating the economic activities of its members. Thus, financial privileges based on blood ties were replaced by another type of privileged status in parallel with the transfer of sovereignty. © The Author(s), 2023.Article Citation - Scopus: 1Course of Treatment of Chronic Bleeding and Anemia with Systemic Bevacizumab Treatment in Hereditary Hemorrhagic Telangiectasia: A Retrospective Cohort(Türkiye Klinikleri, 2023) Durak, Emine; Ugur, Mehmet Can; Gediz, FusunAmaç: Kalıtsal hemorajik telenjiyektazi (HHT), anormal anjiyo- geneze neden olan otozomal dominant bir hastal ıktır. Article Citation - Scopus: 1Integrating Light Elements in Fashion: Practice-Based Design Approach(Chamber of Textile Engineers, 2023-06-30) Vuruşkan, Arzu; Bulgun, Ender; Tekcan, ElifIn history, the relationship between fashion and technology has influenced the ever-changing silhouettes of the body, the quality of materials used to construct these silhouettes, and the colors giving liveliness to the material. Today, influenced by the digital revolution and innovation in advanced materials, the fashion industry benefits from the increasing possibilities of technology to develop alternative functions even to the most conventional dress forms, such as wedding gowns. This integration, which necessitates the contribution of different know-how and expertise, also provides a creative platform for developing interdisciplinary, practice-based design research and applications. In this study, an innovative wedding dress using light as a design element was produced with the joint contribution of designers and engineers based in Izmir, considered the capital of bridalwear in Turkey. This project, which considers light as a new design element that increases the expressive power of the dress, aims to offer an alternative to both the wedding dress category and the existing examples incorporating light technologies. In accordance with the main framework, research questions, and project design concept, the study conducts a literature review examining current design examples using different light technologies (LED, optical fibers, etc.). Following this, the stages of design, sample development and production processes are presented with relevant visuals. It is believed that this study, whose research, design development, and production processes are shared in detail, will set an example for future interdisciplinary projects. © 2023, Tekstil ve Muhendis.
