Methods: Eighty-eight female patients with SjS and 3,338 age-matched healthy female controls were included in this study. 25 OH-D3 levels were compared with healthy controls. Then the patients were stratified according to their 25 OH-D3 levels, either insufficient/deficient or normal (<50 nmol/L or ≥50 nmol/L). The disease activity was evaluated using The EULAR SjS disease activity index (ESSDAI) and its components. Correlation analyses were also performed for a possible correlation with disease characteristics and markers of activity. Results: No differences in 25 OH-D3 levels were found between SjS and healthy populations (p>0.05). No correla- tions were found between patient characteristics or labo- ratory values (p>0.05). Conclusions: This study did not find a link between disease characteristics and disease activity and 25 OH-D3 levels. Prospective studies with more patients should be conducted to reach a conclusion.Article Citation - WoS: 2Matrix Metalloproteinase-2 and -3 Levels in Patients With Behçet's Disease and Implication for the Presence of Vascular Aneurysm or Neurologic Involvement(AVES, 2023-08-24) Erten, Pınar Talu; Keser, Gökhan; Durusoy, Raika; Kocaer, Sinem Burcu; Aksu, KenanBackground: Behçet's disease is a systemic vasculitis affecting both arteries and veins, as well as causing recurrent inflammatory multiorgan disease. Vascular involvement is associated with increased mortality and morbidity. Matrix metalloproteinases are released at sites of inflammation and degrade various components of the extracellular matrix. Increased levels of metalloproteinase-9 and metalloproteinase- 2 have been previously reported in Behçet's disease. Methods: In this cross-sectional study, metalloproteinase-2 and metalloproteinase-3 serum levels were investigated in 103 patients with Behçet's disease and 69 healthy controls, using Invitrogen immunoassay human metalloproteinase-2 and metalloproteinase-3 ELISA kits. Results: Serum metalloproteinase-2 and metalloproteinase-3 levels were significantly higher in the Behçet's disease group compared to healthy controls. Besides, serum metalloproteinase-3 levels were significantly higher in subgroups of Behçet's disease with aneurysmal vascular involvement and with neurological involvement. However, metalloproteinase-2 and metalloproteinase-3 serum levels did not show a positive correlation with disease activity. Conclusion: Metalloproteinase-2 and -3 may contribute to the complex pathogenesis of Behçet's disease. More importantly, the detection of very high serum levels of metalloproteinase-3 may predict the formation of an aneurysm, or possibly the presence of neurological involvement in Behçet's disease and may lead the clinician to make an earlier diagnosis of these complications in young male patients with high risk.Article Citation - WoS: 1Comparison of Pulmonary Functions, Physical Activity Level and Quality of Life in Obese and Pre-Obese Individuals(Aves, 2017-11-30) Aktan, Ridvan; Ozalevli, SevgiObjective: There are studies regarding pulmonary functions of obese individuals in literature; however, there is insufficient data regarding pre-obese individuals. This study aimed to compare the pulmonary functions, physical activity levels, and health-related quality of life (HRQOL) of obese and pre-obese individuals. Methods: The characteristics of 62 subjects participating in the study were recorded All subjects were evaluated using pulmonary function tests (PFT), short form-36 health survey (SF-36), obesity and weight loss quality of life measure (OWLQOL), international physical activity questionnaires (IPAQ), and modified medical research council (mMRC) scale. Results: The severity of perceived dyspnea in obese subjects was significantly higher than that in pre-obese subjects. The PFT parameters (FVC, FEV 1, PEF, FEF 25-75, FEF 25-75 %, MVV, and MVV%) were significantly lower in obese subjects. Although individuals in both groups were inactive, the inactivity levels in obese subjects were significantly higher. HRQOL scores were significantly lower in obese individuals. The body mass index (BMI) was significantly correlated with dyspnea severity, SF-36 subscores, OWLQOL scores, and PFT parameters. Conclusion: While an increasing BMI has an adverse effect on the pulmonary functions of pre-obese individuals, increased BMI coupled with reduced pulmonary functions causes a decrease in the physical activity levels and reduces HRQOL of obese individuals.
