Article Yaşamın Çevrimiçi Okulu: Alain de Botton’un ‘The School Of Life’ Oluşumunun Strateji ve Taktik Olarak Analizi(2020-12-31) Gürsoy, A. Özgür; Karanfil, GokcenBu çalışma genel olarak popüler kültürün iktidar, direniş ve öznellik gibi olgulara olanak tanıyan bir alan yaratma potansiyelini ve bu potansiyelin varlığına dair eleştirel yaklaşımları tartışmaya açmaktadır. Çalışmada, Michel de Certeau ve Michel Foucault’nun “strateji” ve “taktik” kavramlarını birbirlerine yakın ama farklı şekilde tanımlamalarından faydalanılarak, popüler kültüre dair iki temel yaklaşımın örtüşme noktaları tespit edilmeye çalışılmıştır. Makale, bu iki kavramın popüler kültür çalışmalarında analitik bir araç olarak kullanımının, yani strateji ve taktiklerin birbirini karşılıklı koşullayışının, şu durumu görünür kıldığını ileri sürmektedir: Kültürel ürünlerin esasen çift-değerli oluşları ve sınırlayıcı stratejiler ile özgürleştirici tersine dönüşlerin aynı zemini paylaştıklarını. Öyleyse popüler kültürel ürünlerin kültür endüstrisinin baskısına karşı kullanımı ancak stratejilerin yapılandırdığı bir mekânın içinden mümkün olacaktır. Çalışmanın ampirik boyutunu bir popüler kültür figürü olan Alain de Botton’un kurduğu The School of Life isimli kişisel gelişim oluşumunun analizi oluşturmaktadır. Makale söz konusu organizasyonun özellikle YouTube kanalını ve çevrimiçi satış mecrasını, belirtilen kuramsal çerçeve içinde inceleyerek, The School of Life’ın (ve benzer kişisel gelişim organizasyonlarının) bir analizini sunmaktadır.Article Alternative E-Assessment in Language Classes: Recent Experiences and Future Directions(Ani Publishing, 2024-04-30) Çağlayan, EsinThis study aimed to explore English as a Foreign Language (EFL) teachers' perceptions regarding alternative e-assessments in the Turkish tertiary level context. The study utilized semi-structured interviews with a sample of EFL instructors from 17 higher education institutions in Türkiye. The data were analyzed using thematic analysis to identify emerging themes. The results revealed varying perceptions about alternative e-assessments, with six primary themes emerging: impact on learning, workload, academic integrity, digital technology, grading and feedback, and assessment competence. Overall, this qualitative study provides valuable insights into the perceptions of EFL teachers regarding alternative e-assessments, highlighting key areas of concern. The study emphasizes the need to address these concerns in professional development programs that provide teachers with the necessary knowledge and skills to effectively implement alternative e-assessments. The results also have implications for the development of effective assessment policies and procedures, optimizing educational practices in the digital age.Article Citation - WoS: 3The Role of Community-Based Health Practice on the Improvement of Healthcare Students' Communication, Empathy and Perception of the Elderly: a Qualitative Study at Izmir University of Economics(Istanbul Univ, Fac Communication, 2021-08-25) Aksoy, Zeynep; Gokdemir, Ozden; Şemin, Makbule İlgi; Semin, IlgiInterpersonal communication involving empathy is of great importance in therapeutic relationships in healthcare. To equip medical/healthcare students with interpersonal communication skills, community-based health education provides real-life contexts in which they engage with the community as part of the curriculum. A community-based health practice (CBHP) was implemented at Izmir University of Economics (IUE) to improve students' communication, empathy and perception towards the elderly. Within an interdisciplinary collaboration among the medicine, nursing, elderly-care and physiotherapy programs, a total of 111 students participated in the project. This study aimed to evaluate the role of the CBHP on students' communication, empathy and perception of the elderly. Taking a qualitative approach, focus group interviews were organized with students (n=22). Descriptive analysis of the qualitative data revealed that students witnessed the loneliness of elderly individuals, their physical and psychosocial needs, which resulted in a high degree of empathy. Furthermore, the study also aimed to gain insights from elderly participants via in-depth interviews (n=9). Results demonstrated that the participants felt valued and useful during the communication processes with the students. In conclusion, CBHP contributed to students' perceptions and empathy towards the elderly; meanwhile the elderly individuals were satisfied with the interest of the medical, nursing and healthcare students.
