Filiz Mergen completed her primary and secondary school education in İzmir. She graduated from Ege University, Department of English Language and Literature in 1990. She started teaching in the same year. Between 1993-1995, she worked as an English teacher at Turkish Air Force Language School. She attended an in-training teacher development course at Lackland Air Force Language School in San Antonio, Texas, U.S.A in 1995 and taught English to international learners. She joined IUE in 2001-2002 Academic year. She had administrative duties besides teaching between 2001-2013. She attended a teacher training program in Kent University in Canterbury, England in 2006. She got her teacher trainer certificate from British Council in 2006. She completed her M. A. in 2010 and Ph.D in 2016 in linguistics. She is currently teaching in the Department of Applied English and Translation at the Vocational School. Also, she teaches elective courses in Psychology Department. She has publications and conference papers on psycholinguistics, neurolinguistics, cognitive aspects of bilingualism, mneumonics and translation training.
