Article Citation - WoS: 7Citation - Scopus: 11Mastering Timely Deliveries Using Dynamic Capabilities: Perspectives From Logistics Service Providers and Shippers(Emerald Group Publishing Ltd, 2023) Özcan, Seda; Oflaç, Bengü; Tokcaer, Sinem; Özpeynirci, ÖzgürPurposeThe criticality of late deliveries in transportation lies in the threat of considerable multi-level supply chain costs. This study aims to reveal the dynamic capabilities playing a facilitating role in preventing delay, thus providing timely delivery, as well as developing an understanding of how and when those capabilities are activated within the supply chain network.Design/methodology/approachAn exploratory study was conducted involving 16 semi-structured expert interviews with the representatives of logistics service providers and shippers. Following an interpretive phenomenology framework, the prevention phenomenon was explained.FindingsFindings revealed two preventive capability categories in delay prevention: (1) proactive capabilities, referring to the enabling actions planned before departure, and (2) reactive capabilities, referring to actions planned after departure. Findings pinpoint that, in addition to the proactive capabilities, reactive capabilities enabled by innovative problem-solving actions are crucial for adapting to a dynamically changing environment in prevention. Moreover, this study shows that prevention capabilities are characterized by tangible and intangible resources and integration of resources with external links which constitute a delay prevention network within a wider service ecosystem.Originality/valueThis study stands out with its specific focus on delay prevention capabilities and enabling actions from the perspectives of logistics service providers and shippers. The premises of the resource-based view are combined with dynamic capabilities theory, leading to a proposed time-based taxonomy of proactive and reactive capabilities in supply chains, aimed at creating value and strengthening resilience. Article Systematic Literature Analysis for Supply Chain Conflicts: Paving the Way for Future Studies(Int Journal Contemporary Economics & Administrative Sciences, 2022) Ozcan, Seda; Oflaç, BengüThis research provides a systematic overview regarding the Supply Chain Conflicts in Business-to-Business (B2B) relationships and defines and categorizes the main conflict areas and resolution mechanisms by conducting a content analysis. Based on the screening of 343 studies published mainly in the literature on marketing, business, management literature and other disciplines during 2010-2021, a systematic review and a content analysis were applied to find out the current situation and future research directions on this topic. In this research, within the context of descriptive analysis, sectoral-based analysis enables us to identify areas where conflicts are prevalent and where there is a need for further action. Regarding content analysis, highly fragmented synthesis presents how areas of conflicts and conflict resolution mechanisms are formed in the current B2B context. By providing a summary of the existing research direction on the subject, published in peer-reviewed international journals that publish research in English, this study contributes to the future academic work by identifying conflict sources and resolution methods to achieve better conflict management practices within the supply chains. With the findings of the research, companies can review their business practices and the underlying factors of conflict situations to improve their supply chains and gain ideas for their resolution. This research also contributes to the industrial marketing literature by providing an assembled and synthesized knowledge for scholars on supply chain conflicts with resolution mechanisms in both the social sciences and interdisciplinary management; deriving a comprehensive analysis of methods and insights addressed by researchers in the field.Article Determinants of Customers' Intention To Adopt Last Mile-Attended Service Points(Istanbul Univ, Sch Business, 2025) Oflac, Bengu Sevil; Ozcan, SedaThis study investigates the determinants influencing consumer intention relating to attended service points in last-mile delivery, which has received less attention than the unattended model. In this regard, we examine the effects of perceived value, online shopping delivery risk, and environmental concerns on attended service point (ASP) adoption. Survey data were collected from 299 consumers. We used the structural equation modeling approach by using AMOS software for data analysis. The results indicate that hedonic values associated with ASPs, last-mile incentives, and online shopping delivery risk are critical and positively affect customer attitudes, which turn into intentions toward ASPs. From a managerial perspective, this research offers several insights into e-commerce and logistics service provider companies' ASP penetration strategies in emerging markets. This study contributes to the academic body of knowledge by enriching the literature on the ASP model in last-mile delivery and investigating the determinants that impact consumers' attitudes and intentions to use ASPs in an emerging market context.Article Citation - WoS: 7Citation - Scopus: 7Managing Disruptions and Strategy Development During Covid-19 Pandemic: the Perspective of Third-Party Logistics Service Providers (3pls)(Taylor & Francis Ltd, 2023) Özcan, Seda; Yumurtacı Hüseyinoğlu, Işık ÖzgeThe Covid-19 pandemic forced many companies to alter and improve their logistics activities as part of their business logistics strategies, to obtain cost and service advantages. In this regard, to lessen the detrimental effects on the business environment, it is critical to develop different strategies according to the nature of the disruptions and uncertainties. This paper explores uncertainty sources confronted by third-party logistics service providers (3PLs), identifies disruptions, reveals the resources used to cope with these and develops strategies for the Covid-19 pandemic. Drawing upon Resource Orchestration Theory (ROT), we reveal the important role of resource allocation in logistics and supply chains (SCs). This study proposes a conceptual framework that describes resources which can be used for strategy development in the face of uncertainties. In terms of managerial implications, this study extends knowledge in the field by providing insights enabling 3PLs to improve their capabilities and increase their performance.Review Exploring the Factors Affecting Shared Biking Perception: Insights From Türkiye(Ege univ, fac economics & admin sciences, 2024) Oflaç, Bengü; Özcan, SedaUnderstanding consumer perception regarding shared biking services requires the analysis of psychological factors underlying the late diffusion of shared biking services. In this regard, by scrutinizing these underlying factors, we aim to uncover insights that can inform the development of targeted business strategies that better align with users' preferences and needs, thereby overcoming barriers to adoption and facilitating the wider dissemination of shared biking systems. Findings show that as consumers perceive shared biking services as useful and hedonic, their attitudes become more favorable. Importantly, highlighting the mediating role of compatibility, this study emphasizes the congruence among shared biking services, consumers' lifestyles, and their traveling habits. Findings also suggest that perceived complexity has a negative impact on shared biking attitudes. Interestingly, no significant relationship was found between perceived risk and shared biking attitude. The findings provide further support for innovation diffusion and theory of reasoned action. The suggested theoretical framework integrates variables related to both barriers and drivers, thus guiding future studies on the sharing economy. The study also provides insights that contribute to the development of service design and marketing strategies that respond better to users' needs, and also, facilitate the spread of these mobility systems. Bu tez kapsamında yürütülen çalışmalar Türkiye Bilimsel ve Teknolojik Araştırma Kurumu tarafından desteklenmiştir (TÜBİTAK, Proje No: 214M195).Book Part Investigating the Conflicts in a Multi-Actor Logistics Incident(IGI Global, 2023) Özcan, Seda; Aksaray, O.; Oflaç, B.S.The objectives of the case study are to highlight the possible challenges/disruptions arising from having a joint operation with multiple companies, to demonstrate operational problems encountered in the business process, and to illustrate the approach of the companies to the problems in this process and subsequent reconciliation process. Furthermore, this study aims to uncover conflict and power relations, which dominate the whole process between companies, based on some theoretical perspectives of power and conflict in distribution channels. By using a real case involving multiple players of the supply chain, this study contributes to transportation disruption and conflict management domains. © 2023 by IGI Global. This study aims to reveal the role of power and criticality in conflict-handling research in logistics service networks.Design/methodology/approachA 2 x 2 between-subject experimental design with four different scenarios was used. One hundred sixty logistics service actors completed an online questionnaire. Data were analyzed with ANOVA and paired sample t-tests using the SPSS 28.0 program.FindingsIn comparative scenarios involving high and low power dynamics, individuals with high power and high criticality situations are more inclined to favor the dominating strategy compared to low-power and low-criticality contexts. However, when faced with specific circumstances characterized by both high power and high criticality, actors tend to prioritize the integrating strategy initially, followed by the dominating and obliging strategies in that order. Notably, the statistical analysis revealed no significant interaction effect between criticality and power concerning the integrating, obliging and dominating conflict-handling strategies.Originality/valueThis study used an experimental approach to investigate criticality and power as contextual elements in determining conflict-handling strategies in an inter-firm environment within logistics service networks. This study is particularly groundbreaking in its knowledge of the relationship among power dynamics, conflict criticality and conflict-handling strategies.
