Examination of the Attitudes Towards Specialization and Psychological Well-Being of Nurses Working in Surgical and Internal Medicine Services

Abstract

Hemşirelik hizmetlerinin niteliğini artırmak aynı zamanda daha iyiye ulaşması için çaba göstermek meslekte bilimselliği ve profesyonelliği gerektirir. Hemşirelikte profesyonelliğin önemi günümüzün değişen sağlık bakım hizmetleri ile daha da artmaktadır. Psikolojik iyi oluş, hemşireler için hem çalışma ortamlarında hem de eğitim süreçlerinde oldukça önemlidir. Bu çalışma Dr. Behçet Uz Çocuk Hastalıkları ve Cerrahisi Eğitim ve Araştırma Hastanesi'nde cerrahi ve dahiliye birimlerinde çalışan hemşirelerin alanda uzmanlaşmaya yönelik tutumları ile psikolojik iyi oluşlarının incelenmesi amacıyla Aralık 2023 - Mayıs 2024 tarihleri arasında 224 hemşire ile yapılmıştır. Veriler sosyo-demografik ve mesleki özellikler formu, Hemşirelikte Uzmanlaşmaya Yönelik Tutum Ölçeği ve Psikolojik İyi Oluş Ölçeği ile toplanmıştır. Verilerin analizi SPSS istatistik paket programında yapılmıştır. Çalışmamızda hem cerrahi birimler hem de dahili birimler grubunda Hemşirelikte Uzmanlaşmaya Yönelik Tutum puanları ile Psikolojik İyi Oluş puanları arasında istatistiksel olarak anlamlı, pozitif yönlü ve orta düzeyli bir ilişki elde edilmiştir (cerrahi birimler r=0,453, p<0,05; dahili birimler r=0,0445, p<0,05; toplam r=0,450, p<0,05). Cerrahi ve Dahili birimler kıyaslandığında; Hemşirelikte Uzmanlaşmaya Yönelik Tutum ve Psikolojik İyi Oluş ölçekleri toplam puanları arasında istatistiksel olarak anlamlı fark saptanmamıştır (p>0,05).

Increasing the quality of nursing services and striving for them to be better requires science and professionalism in the profession. The importance of professionalism in nursing is increasing with today's changing health care services. Psychological well-being is very important for nurses both in their work environments and in their education processes. This study was conducted with 224 nurses between December 2023 and May 2024 in order to examine the attitudes of nurses working in the surgical and internal medicine services towards specialization in the field and their psychological well-being at Dr. Behçet Uz Children's Diseases and Surgery Training and Research Hospital. Data were collected using the socio-demographic and professional characteristics form, the Attitude Towards Specialization in Nursing Scale and the Psychological Well-being Scale. The SPSS statistical package program was used for data analysis. In our study, a statistically significant, positive and moderate relationship was obtained between the Attitude Towards Specialization in Nursing scores and the Psychological Well-being scores (r=0.453) in the surgical units group (p<0.05). In the internal units group, a statistically significant, positive and moderate relationship was found between the Attitude Towards Nursing Specialization scores and Psychological Well-being scores (r=0.0445) (p<0.05). When surgical and internal units were compared, no statistically significant difference was found between the total scores of the Attitude Towards Nursing Specialization and Psychological Well-being scales (p>0.05); however, when evaluated together, a statistically significant, positive and moderate relationship was observed between the Attitude Towards Nursing Specialization scores and Psychological Well-being scores (r=0.450) (p<0.05).
