Evaluating Turkish Migration To the Eu: Past, Present and Future Trends in the Context of Free Movement of Workers

Abstract

Bu tez, AB/AT'na Türk göçünün geçmiş, günümüz ve gelecek eğilimlerini, AB üyeliği veişçilerin serbest dolaşımı bağlamında analiz eder. Bugün Avrupa çevrelerinde yapılan enateşli tartışmalardan biri Türkiye'nin üyeliğinin Topluluk üzerine etkisinin ne olacağıdır. Buanlamda eğer serbest dolaşım hakkına sahip olurlarsa, ne kadar sayıda Türkün Avrupa Birliğiülkelerine göç edeceği sorusu önem kazanmaktadır. Bu soruya cevap aramak için buçalışmada Türkiye'nin AB üyelik sürecinde göstereceği muhtemel ekonomik performans vealternatif göç senaryoları incelenmektedir. Ayrıca uzun dönemde gerçekleşecek sosyo-ekonomik değişimlerin AB'ye yönelecek Türk göçü üzerine muhtemel etkilerideğerlendirilmektedir.

This thesis analyzes the past, present, and future trends of Turkish migration to the EU/EC inthe context of the EU membership and the free movement of workers. Today one of thehottest debate in European circles is the impact of Turkey?s membership to the Community.In this respect one question is arising that how many Turkish migrants would move to the EUcountries if they have the right of free movement?. In this thesis , to find an answer to thisquestion Turkish possible economic performance in the EU-membership process andalternative emigration scenarios are examined. The eventual influence of social-economictransformations on Turkish migration to the EU in the long-run is also evaluated.
