Review Citation - WoS: 16Citation - Scopus: 40Current Evaluation and Recommendations for the Use of Artificial Intelligence Tools in Education(Walter De Gruyter Gmbh, 2023-12-01) Sagin, Ferhan Girgin; Özkaya, Ali Burak; Tengiz, Funda; Geyik, Öykü Gönül; Geyik, CanerThis paper discusses the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) tools in education, delineating their potential to transform pedagogical practices alongside the challenges they present. Generative AI models like ChatGPT, had a disruptive impact on teaching and learning, due to their ability to create text, images, and sound, revolutionizing educational content creation and modification. However, nowadays the educational community is polarized, with some embracing AI for its accessibility and efficiency thus advocating it as an indispensable tool, while others cautioning against risks to academic integrity and intellectual development. This document is designed to raise awareness about AI tools and provide some examples of how they can be used to improve education and learning. From an educator's perspective, AI is an asset for curriculum development, course material preparation, instructional design and student assessment, while reducing bias and workload. For students, AI tools offer personalized learning experiences, timely feedback, and support in various academic activities. The Turkish Biochemical Society (TBS) Academy recommends educators to embrace and utilize AI tools to enhance educational processes, and engage in peer learning for better adaptation while maintaining a critical perspective on their utility and limitations. The transfer of AI knowledge and methods to the teaching experiences should complement and not replace the educator's creativity and critical thinking. The paper advocates for an informed embrace of AI, AI fluency among educators and students, ethical application of AI in academic settings, and continuous engagement with the evolving AI technologies, ensuring that AI tools are used to augment critical thinking and contribute positively to education and society. Çalışmanın, bu genel çerçevede, gazeteciliğin Türkiyedeki yönelimine referans oluşturacak bir perspektif sunması öngörülmektedirBook Review Siyasetin Yeni Hali Vaka-i Sosyal Medya: Seçimden Seçime, Gezi Direnişi'nden Hükümet Cemaat Çatışmasına(2015) Akın, Altuğ[Abstract Not Available]Article Citation - WoS: 2Accidental Humor in Consecutive Interpreting: Accidentally Useful Food for Thought(Istanbul Univ, Fac Letters, 2021-11-26) Yetkin Karakoç, Nihal; Karakoç, Nihal Yetkin; Yetkin-Karakoc, NihalUnlike humor translation, humor in translation, caused by translation errors, is underresearched in translation studies. Accidental humor, as a subgroup of humor, has been analyzed in translation contexts, but to the best knowledge of the author, not in the interpreting context. This descriptive study, being the first of its kind dealing with the accidental humor in consecutive interpreting, is intended to fill the gap in the verbal manifestations of resources in the English-Turkish interpreting context along with the possible reasons for resources of accidental humor in consecutive interpreting class. As a result of the study, a total of 38 accidentally humorous instances are found. The verbal resources are analyzed and divided into main and sub-categories, and for each, examples from the corpus are discussed. In addition, new linguistic resources were discovered, which may be exclusive to this context. The detected items are by no means meant to be exhaustive, as also stated by the former studies, but nevertheless enables greater understanding about the types and possible causes of accidental humor which may occur during the consecutive interpreting process. Given the dearth of literature on accidental humor in consecutive interpreting, this study may provide some insight for remedial teaching/learning in interpreting studies, as well as linguistics. Future studies may examine, among the others, verbal resources in the simultaneous interpreting context and compare the verbal resources in depth in consecutive with those in simultaneous interpreting.Article Citation - WoS: 1Citation - Scopus: 13Social Media in Political Communication and the Use of Twitter in the 2011 General Elections in Turkey(Ahmet Yesevi Univ, 2014-01-27) Bayraktutan, Gunseli; Binark, Mutlu; Comu, Tugrul; Dogu, Burak; Islamoglu, Gozde; Aydemir, Asli Telli; Binark, Ferruh MutluSocial media environments, which are basically new media applications, have many users both in Turkey and in the world.
